I shot and directed my first music video in Japan yesterday using our Red One, for an independent up-and-coming artist called Karuta.

The video is a joint production between Visceral Psyche and Musetex and we plan to show in detail both the grading process and the workflow for Japanese clients interested in the process. We have full rights to use the footage so we will be using samples and stills to demonstrate our abilities as a full studio for end-to-end Red production.

It will culminate in the full release of the music video in 1080p for download once finished, but for now I will whet your appetite with some still snapshots taken from the footage since we have just begun editing.

Let me preface these stills by saying that anyone who thinks Red footage isn't up to the level of the best DSLRs, isn't paying attention....

The following shots have only had a primary grade done on them, entirely in Redcine. No other colour correction has been done on them. Photoshop was used only to add the borders and resize for the web.

Build 15 was used and we shot 4K 2:1 throughout at 23.98fps with varispeed up to 30fps on a lot of the shots. All the stills you see here were lensed with either the 85mm or 135mm Arri Ultra Primes, mostly wide open. Oh and I should also mention, no added lighting beyond a single reflector to provide occasional fill.

Enjoy, more to come soon including moving footage!

Paul

Hahahahaha be careful in listening to that hahahaha middle eastern videos tend to be to blurry hahahaha. :sarcasm:

I think it looks great. Seems to be an interesting story. The night shots are going to look amazing, can't wait to see a graded version.

Domo!

The little robot (girl) is called Posy and she is designed by Tatsuya Matsui of Flower Robotics. If you own the "Lost In Translation" DVD you can see her and her twin in the deleted scenes section - sadly she didn't make the final cut.

In this video she's one of the leading ladies so she's coming up in the world! :)

Thanks for all the comments so far!

Paul

Great shots. Love the shallow dof. The overcast day really works for the little robot.

Just curious, don't take this question wrong, but are you planning on any digital makeup... softening, glow, etc?
