  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IR/ND/Hot Mirror Matrix...

That is one sweet ASS you got there Mr. Willard. What kind of premium does it add to your day rate?

I was just about to warm up the credit card for a set of Pancros today... now I will be putting that into a holding pattern while I await your test.

You could save me from some buyers remorse and that is greatly appreciated since those little pieces of treated glass ain't cheap.

I was warming it up for the Rosco (thanks to Michael  for setting up the group buy) and did the same thing! I think we'll all be better off once the results are known...

Daren, there's just something wrong about your preoccupation with Brook's hind quarters.:umm:

Don't get me wrong Evin your fiancee and I spoke in great detail about how well you fill a pair of jeans at the reduser bash. But you need to face the fact that you are nowhere in the same league as the Prime grade "A" rump roast Willard is hauling around!

Evin, can't wait to see the results of your tests!

Tushy, er.. Touche.

Please be more specific, Off axis from what? The lens? The sensor?

I think Mike explained it already. Sorry for being unclear.
Looking forward to your tests! :)

Evin. please check the reflections....

it would be great to be shooting and not have to deal with red spots in your shot.

Evin, that is off the front surface of the filter onto the ground. The hotmirror filters are exactly that "mirrors". I'm afraid it comes with the territory.

It's a total bitch. WIth the Leica M8 it killed people for a while because they were used to a stealthy little camera, but with a glowing red filter on the front it becomes a lot more conspicuous.

Didn't read the whole thread so excuse me if this has already been covered.

Just spoke to South lonon Filters and they told me that Schneider will make an IR filter just like the stills one but that means they're not combining it with ND.
It will not be hot mirror but no ND option.

This might help some in making their choice.

Evan,

A couple possible tests to consider. I did these when comparing the various Rosco formulas.

vignette/color cast tests #1:

Roll on a Macbeth chart at center and white field filling frame; no IR then each filter. In post, white balance/tint each of the shots to the chart. Render to single frame. In Photoshop, increase saturation by 80%.

vignette/color cast tests #2:

Roll on each sample; no IR and each filter. In post, white balance/tint to the non-IR pic and copy settings to other samples. Render to single frame. In Photoshop, increase saturation by 80%.

Essentially, while I was able to see subtle color casts and vignettes from the images straight from camera, this method made any weirdness very visible to all.

Best,

Michael

Good idea for a test matrix Evin. Let me know if you need to borrow our 82mm Tiffen Hot Mirror or 5x6 Rosco Hot Mirror.
