had a cursory search, didn't find any threads on this movie, if there are I apologise. Please lock this down then...

Anyways, I'm seeing it in a few hours at the Odeon Leicester Square.
I believe it's a 4K screening

I'l let you guys know how it looked.

i've watched it yesterday. the movie was very futuristic and funny. CG was good. but i don't like the background music though.not so appealing like spiderman movies.

Wow. It was brilliant.
Was it perfect? No. A few major niggles, but still a 5 star movie. Why? Because the niggles didn't detract from the experience. I still left the theatre floating on air, feeling like a little kid, wishing I had Tony Stark's toys...

I'll discuss the finer points of the movie with anyone who is willing, but I want to keep this post related to the 4K screening.

Perhaps the cinema was not at fault, it being the English equivelent of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre where most major premieres are held, but alot of the speech was garbled. Perhaps it was just the sound mix of the movie.

As for visuals? It hasn't changed my opinion about digital projection.

Yes, shooting on film is lovely and an art unto itself. But after watching alot of movies on 2K prjection, and a good few on 4K i can safely say that film projection is almost dead to me. I would be happy if I only stumbled upon film prints in some nostalgic flea pit theatre a few times a year, somewhere like the Prince Charles.

RED RAY cannot come soon enough.

Every dent, every blow all in crystal clear 4K.
I took my regular D.P to see it with me, it was his first 4K screening.
I gathered that it was like looking at the world for the first time after having surgery for cataracts. :sorcerer:

Are you kidding me? I loved the Score!

Saw Iron Man yesterday, and just came back from 21.

:)

Both great!

I saw it on film, there was something wrong about the projector lamp or butterfly (I have no idea how a projector works, sorry) sometimes some frames would turn black! WTH

Im not sure SHooter, but there should be 4K screenings at the largest digitally outfitted multiplexes in the nearest major city, at least i'd imagien there would be.

On a camera-geek note, I loved the fact that Tony Stark had a Phantom camera recording his tests. That's quite realistic of them to include that if you ask me. The phantom is used in industrial manufacturing to check for faults etc.

On another note, please tell me you guys stayed through the credits for the best extra scene I've seen in any movie...

Saw it last night at a sneak-preview with the family. ILM CGI was excellent as was to be expected. Very good action movie and thought Robert Downey Jr. was a good casting. My 12 yr old son is Iron Man crazy (you have no idea how many Burger King kids meals I've eaten to get Iron Man toys!).

Oh yeah - definitely wait out the credits for the suprise scene at the end of them.

Ive seen both 2K and 4K screenings of films a few times and ive always had a niggle with subtitles having slightly discernable aliasing on 2K projections. Iron Man exhibited none of these problems. I also bothered the people that worked at the theatre to tell me what the format was, after a very lengthy time i was told "yeah yeah digital 4K".

Now, im not sure if they just said that to get me out the way because they were very busy and I was probably being a bit of a nusiance :umm:

If it was 2K, then great job on the transfer!
Pin sharp, achieving that kinda-almost-3D look

There's DLP stuff going on in Times Square. Don't know what size.

Tell me of these 4K's goings-on. Tell me quickly.

It's super-35, 2K DI. Details here

That was the best commercial release movie I've seen for ages.
It's just so great that the original Marvel guys have now regained control of the Marvel franchise. Clearly, they know their market. Well, so they should; how many kids in the US would NOT have heard of Iron Man.

Some of the earlier Marvel movies (Spider-man etc) were OK I suppose, but the producers took too many liberties with the characters' characters, if you get my meaning.

Other comic book franchises haven't done much better of course.
Superman Returns was a major disappointment as far as I'm concerned, considering how long it took them to get round to making it. By the way, this video of Kevin Smith's ultimately futile efforts to get an earlier attempt of the project off the ground makes entertaining viewing:biggrin:

I can't wait to see The Incredible Hulk, done to Marvel Specs, not that abortion that came out a few years back.

I think the casting of Iron Man was absolutely perfect. Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow IS Pepper Potts.

Thank Christ they didn't let Tom Cruise play Tony Stark as he had been angling for for some time; that would have killed it for me.

(On the other hand, casting Jim Jannard as Obidiah Stone, cigars and all, seems an odd choice, but it worked out very well:biggrin: )

I bet even he doesn't have as nifty a pad as Tony Stark!

And it may sound corny, but I also think it's great that they can make a blockbuster action film without the actors having to resort to profanities every five seconds. The coarsest language is right at the end when Obidiah yells out (to Stark/Iron Man) "Stand still you little prick!" The dialog is very witty and fast paced.

There is only one brief sex scene, implied more than than shown, and it's a legitimate part of the plot.

It might not bother me or most of you here, but that sort of thing makes it difficult when parents want to take their kids to the movies.

Well anyway, according to Rotten Tomatoes, this film has gotten the highest critical approval rating ever! They have about 100 reviews from various newspapers etc, only about 3 were overtly negative, and those sound to me like people just trying to show how "sophisticated" they are.

The film is relatively light on CGI, it mostly relies on well-made sets and locations, and that really shines through.

This film has been a long time coming, but I think it was worth the wait.

Wow, I stand corrected. Best 2K presentation I've ever seen.

I know what you mean, this feels like the first superhero movie to really revel in the characters powers and personality instead of either brushing them aside or just paying lip service to shut the fans up and get on with the rest of the movie.

Wild Wild West? Giant Spider in the third act :bleh:

I think im one of the very few people to like the Ang Lee movie. Was it a great Hulk movie? No. Was it a great movie regardless? Yes! The new Hulk has a Tony Stark cameo in it aswell. Can anyone say "The Avengers?"

I was thinking about Jannard-Obadiah too! Made me burst out laughing in a really quiet part, think i annoyed a few people...Tony Stark seems like the kinda guy who'd own a few EPICs around the house just for private filming, you know?

I saw it on a Christie 2K CP2000 Projector and then saw it on a Sony 4K SRX-R220. Yes the film was finished in 2K. Real reason is that 4K is great BUT thats 4 times the render space for CG, costs lots more. The SRX-R220 looked far better than the Christie. It was an AMC Indianapolis full Digital 4K theatre all had SRX-R220's. I talked to them and they said the only film to be shown in 4K was "No Country for Old Men." But it does cost a lot more for CG, consider that some frames in Transformers took almost 35 hours to render at 2K. Iron Man best movie this decade, thats my thoughts at least, awesome breath of fresh air.
