  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More info...

OK - apology taken AND must say I was overreacting - Sorry!

The speed is sometimes to fast on the internet, I'm all OK.

I should say, thank you as well, for your patience and understanding through this difficult time. I have had to wait, at times in my life, for things that seemed they would never arrive. I once had a car in restoration that took a couple years longer than expected and I thought I was going to explode before getting it. It's hard to remember those feelings now when I'm out for a Sunday drive with the top down.

But know that we feel the pain you are going through and hope that when the day comes that your camera arrives, these times will melt away a bit. Thanks for hanging in there.

Well, it sure is nice to at least know what's happening. I can't tell you the depression I felt as I watched the "order now and ship by" dialogue on the buy page slip from june, then to september, now too november all in the last couple of weeks. But I have finally got some of my financing in order and will be placing my order within the next couple days. I was on the verge of looking at some cheaper panasonic and sony camera's, but ultimately the draw of the fact that this camera IS in demand and far out performs its price range convinced me that even with the long wait I would be foolish to start my company with anything else. guess I need to find something to keep me busy till I can get started. But I still have faith that the wait will pay off in the end. Look for my order tomorrow or monday.
Thanks

Just got my tracking number! So yes, they are making there way through the orders!

I'm wondering if the connection and communication between the community and red will still be here when Red becomes as big as Canon and Panasonic etc. (Would be very strange if they won't be that five years from now).

Please keep the humanity! I think it's this which is the revolution and not the camera itself, as someone else also said.
I don't give a damn about Panasonic because they only care about me buying their camera. Red really want their users to be happy, for real! That is rare and worth gold in this world of consumers and shallowness!

All hail Red! :)

As long as I am alive and kicking, we'll stay connected to our customers and the community. Remember, I am a customer 1st and foremost.

Thanks to all at Red for your tireless efforts. Our 70k has been in for awhile now for #'s 1507 & 1508. We continue to support all of Team Red in what you are doing. Fight on... we'll wait. No worries.

I’ll have a little time to learn FCP and this whole darkside thing you guys talked me into. My Mac pro will arrive Friday.

You're actually going into the light. :shiftyph34r:

The new posted schedule reflects the issue of the cover glass. This was the "vendor issue", "parts supply", "component gremlin" that I referred to in yesterday's announcement. While rejects of this glass have always been a factor in cameras passing QA, it is only recently that we have seen an unusual increase in the problem. And, as Jim has said, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Had we not had the enormous increase in demand, it could have been manageable. The combination of many things conspired to reduce the daily yield at a time when we could least afford it.

We sat in conference yesterday and I have based the current schedule on what we think is a worst case scenario. Let's pray to the technology Gods for that, eh fellas?

I know something of the resources you need to handle suppliers for high-tech products, as I have been at the receiving end of the process.

Some 7 years ago I sat in a three-day meeting with the top QA management of a giant company who were planning to incorporate software from the 30-person company where I was responsible for QA.

They were doing their ISO due diligence to qualify us as a vital supplier, and we had to explain every detail in our testing and verification processes.

We got a long checklist, and three months later there was a follow-up to see how we were progressing in our failed areas. All this for something which probably contributed <1% to their unit costs. You have to be huge to afford that level of preemptive QA.

They were the market leaders then, and they still are. Our company is now up to about 500 employees, and the market leader in our segment. That early experience of having our noses rubbed in our relative lack of effective processes did us a lot of good.

Companies who do not have that amount of clout will have to rely on whatever the suppliers tell them, unless they are certified in some recognized system. I really hope those glassmakers are able to learn from experience, or that it is possible to find a second source.

it's no lie...this sucks. but i went into it knowing that there could (and probably would) be delays. but i find you have to stay positive about these things.

more time to refine my script, more time for the accessories (maybe the mattebox) to become readily available, and more time to learn from the genius folks in this forum that are already in the field with this camera...

viva la RED!

Ok .. BIG fans of Red here, it's the future and it's structured into our future. We got our first touch of one at the recent BSC show  We understand manfacture delays are out of Red's control and the shedule was an estimate. But - my producer nearly had a complete meltdown at the new delivery dates. We're #2538 and just been bumped from May/June to August/September. We just lost the summer.

This is not a moan. We continue to wait patiently. We will spend budget money that should be used for purchase on hire. What we do take issue with is the policy of 'your camera is ready but you don't have to take it', which is now causing grief for Red - and us. If someone is not able or ready to take their camera their reservation should be made available to those of us who are. But of course Red also have a 'no reservation swap' policy. Oh well, we wait......

Agree with you Stuart, it is a very strange idea. But, it's a strange company, in a positive way a lot of the time! Obviously the idea is that they are rmeianing loyal to the early reservation takers as they were the ones who had faith even in the early days when many saw RED as just a dream and thought those the mugs who were putting deposits down were never ever going to see a camera. Those "mugs" of course, now have their cameras!!!
3 month set-back after an already long wait is hard to bear though.
Steve

Thanks for the update.

The main thing our competition has over us is that we don't know what we are doing. That is going to change at some point... and that is when we become dangerous.
