I have a question regarding the new shoulder dovetails that are in design.

Will Red be making a non shoulder dovetail that could mount to the bottom plate?

It would be great to be able to attach a dovetail plate to my steadicam or jib head and quick mount my camera from tripod to other objects without unscrewing anything (camera Included aka cheese plate).

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly but you can mount any quick-release plate that your tripod uses to the cheeseplate.

By the way, you can also use the base plate + cheeseplate combo for handeld. You just need to use some kind of shoulder padding.

You aren’t understanding me correctly ;) Having to use the cheese plate completely defeats the purpose of using the shoulder dovetail and its quick release ability.

The thing with the dovetail is actually pretty annoying, and it feels so unneccesary. Everything else (in my RED rig) fits so well, and then this sloppy dovetail....

I'm pondering...

Hmm ok, I now see what you mean. Since I haven't received the dovetail yet but have the cheeseplate I'm actually thinking the other way around: leave the cheeseplate permanently mounted and either screw in your tripod quick-release plate or some shoulder padding. That way you have a rock solid tripod mount and can still go quickly to handheld mode and back.

I have tried the shoulder dovetail and actually really like it. And mounting and dismounting for tripod/handheld use is no problem. But going from tripod to steadicam or tripod to Jib head Takes forever. Thats why I would like a dovetail that is solid (in the works from red) without the shoulder part, that could be attached directly to my jib or steadicam at all times. Then I would just remove my camera from the tripod and throw it right onto my jib. (FAST SOLID EASY)

Just wondering, is the dove tail compatible with the Arri sliding baseplate system?

I was wondering that myself, then we would have a nice solution... However from my observation, how would the Bade plate lock down on the arri?
