  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This camera is too awesome. Image quality way too outstanding for price.

WTF? This camera is like 1 tenth the price of the competing camera and it works on a single chip with 35mm coverage so that we can mount an entire world of PL mount 35mm glass, That's way to many choices. Why couldn't you guys start with a 3 chip 2/3 inch camera and work your way up to the 35mm system?

Plus because you are reading Raw data off this low noise chip, I'm getting several times the dynamic range off this camera as off of my other video cameras. I'm trying to blow stuff out in the highlights but I need bigger lights.

Then I tried doing some massive selective color correction on the image and I can't achieve the boxy compression artifact look that has become my personal signature on everything I do in HD. Maybe Red could add a "boxy" mode so that I can get this look.

Plus there are too many pixels. I can't work if I can't see the individual pixels. How am I supposed to do my job.

I tried using this F950 as a boat anchor, but it just drags along the bottom of the ocean and won't catch on anything. Now its all oxidized and won't even turn on. It's too big for a paperweight and takes up my whole desk!

Please Red, make a camera that sucks so I can continue living in the past.

Red, to join Ians complaints, i have some too...
having the ability to work with Metadata is too much for my retarded mind. I need the wysiwyg and this wysiwyg should suck....and should suck until final delivery..

Red really sucks, because everybody can suddenly create pictures independent of their wallet....cool pictures should always be a sign of big wallets...and not talent or skills.

and red really sucks, because i can buy a cam instead of renting it all the time...i will miss the moments where i pay the rental bill for a mediocre cam...

and red really sucks because of this forum...people shouldnt know and help each other and build a community.

red really sucks because viewfactor was motivated to give a remotte ff for cheap into peoples hand...this should cost...

red really sucks because colorgrading began to be desired by thousands...

And now I can use Canon SLR lenses on the Birger mount, that are optically sharper than my $25,000 Canon B4 mount zoom - and they only cost $500 to $1900. WTF again. How do we get a significant tax deduction with prices like that?

I just think RED is too much of a religion. People are too happy with what they have and sorta focuses that happiness mistakenly on a cam and a workflow, when they should really know that the cam is unworkable by anyone who haven't shot film their whole life - coincidedly the same persons that (fortunately) all despise RED. Happiness comes from the inside and has nothing to do with hyped gear.
And why doesn't RED come with a scriptmachine that can script according to a given mix of genre and art/blockbuster???? Hey. This is really unfortunate that all these untalented people get access to this crappy hardware to point and miss their subjects when shooting their nonexistent scripts without any art in there.

Jim Jannard: BE ASHAMED

And now: EPIC, the REAL HOAX!!!

You cannot even put down a deposit on this non-existing cam.
Say no more....

I just want the freekin' black & white firmware build so I can make some real art ...

And Fisher Price PixelVision output for backward compatibility with existing workflows.

And the software NEEDS to work on Commodore 64 !!

I know Cineform has a working solution and I just don't understand why Fisher Price won't let them release the command line!!

PixelVision workflows are needed NOW!!!!!

How the hell does RED expect us to make a living!!

Marc,

we often have different opinions, but here i have to agree! its scandalous that we dont have b/w - with a film camera i can do EXACTLY that! (!!!).

Furthermore, i think its important to note that the RED lenses are much to inexpensive. They destroy the rental market and our industry will fail due to this and nobody will be able to make good movies anymore.

Another important point: The camera is MUCH to precise, sharp and accurate - if shoot on Super 8 make-up for the actors is much easier.

i have to resist... no, i must answer: different from all the irony above, the workflow issues for 95% of all the post houses (discreet/linux, quantel) and the fully functional, much faster than existing full 4K solutions which (as cineform, dvs, iridas) which are not officially supported but fully functional are really an daily issue for many people.

Therefore i recommend that we focus on the purely non-sense aspects of the silly complaints on which we all can agree on :)

Back to the topic:
scarlet for sure should have a 65mm optics interchange mount, btw, and lets not forget red-ray, which clearly lacks a programmable timer so that we can record NBC on it.

I have a ZX 81 with a serial port, I think that will be ok for controlling EPIC!

Or maybe an Oric ATmos will do?
ZX81 not supported, you have to upgrade to Sinclair Spectrum.
Graeme announced that long ago.

Jeeeexzzzzz!!!

THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE A STICKY!!!

I just did the 16k RAM upgrade. Is all my money wasted?

I must sell my house and JIM IS RESPONSIBLE!

And all real computer geeks know that the Spectrum is just unusable for real work.
I insist on writing assembley for the ZX 81!

I'll find a workaround, for sure, but I ain't telling Jim how I solved it...

One should add: They only had prototypes at NAB, nobody can build such a sensor, red will stop selling epics because the make a huge loss on it, clearly 95% of the reservation holders will not buy the camera and finally, ITS A SCAM! :)

oh....now i am relaxing....all this hype is a scam...back to mobilephonematography

and let's not forget the fact of the incompetent management. Not only do they frequently interact with mere customers, no, they even talk openly about problem and setbacks. when other companies run into trouble, they smile and say everthing's fine. Or at least they blame someone else.

Red should step up, shut up and come up with some overprized, proprietary solutions.
