Anybody given any thought to how an Epic package might rent for compared to Red One? Assuming the accessories list is about the same for each.

40k body? In a stable market it will go for 800-1000/day or 3500/wk.

For the kind of shows the Epic is targeted at, the body is only a fraction of the cost of the package (say, 1/10th or less). Standard for cameras is around 2-2.5%/day book rate. Real rates will depend on market uptake and 'exclusivity' at first, which is likely to be less than the situation now with the Red One. As well, rental rates on bigger shows usually come with some sort of discount, depending on the run of the production.

Hopefully at the higher price point for Epic, there will be fewer folks jumping in and low-balling the market rate.

Hi,

Like they always did with Vipers & F900's etc, charging approx 1% of purchase price.

Yeah, 0.75-1.5 is the usual range once offer matches demand.
1.5-2.5 years for ROI are basic business as well.

I am not sure if epic will be -the- smash hit the red one is in the rental market.

red one is so good, that is easily outperforms requirements for 35mm and DCI cinema release, blu-ray dvd and TV.

And for a typical 15-45 day shooting scenario with 2 cameras with an fixed budget, i suppose many DOPs might consider using better lenses instead of switching from red one to red epic.
