hello long time loyal red dude
i am finalizing my order and i would love someone from reds response
i have a reserve on the 18-85 zoom in the 500's
when can i expect to get it as i have to finalize my order and i dont want nor can i afford another lens
secondly when can we expect 16 gb flash cards as i would like to save money
and not have to buy 8 gb and a drive and then sell once the 16s come
hope you understand my dilema
please and thank you ; )

The 18-85 ZOOM will be shipping before the end of 2008. The 16GB CF CARDS are still in internal RED testing but we expect them to be available rather soon. As soon as we have more concrete info on both products, it will be posted here in the forum.

Thanks, BC

thanks for the fast reply, i understand.

jim brought the future and its easy to figure he has a time machine ; )

back to my patient waiting:construction:

Regarding the 16g cf cards, will they be available in sequence of owner #? and if there is a shortage, will there be a limit per user?

Are we also looking at an end of the year delivery for the new 300mm lens?

And, will the rehoused 300mm lenses be JUST rehoused, or will they be optically different from the current 300mm?

I have the current 300mm, and optically and mechanically, it's sweet - image is great, and controls are smooth and nicely damped. Just curious. The new primes look sexy as hell (uh-oh, I'm starting to get excited . . . need both hands to type), but operationally, the current 300 rocks.

Don't know much either... other then the fact that all changes that Jim & Crew have implemented so far has been improvements. They're rehousing to something something even sweeter.

its not just a "rehoused" lens.. it has some interior modifications as well.

Oh ! Last I heard was summer 2008. Is it being pushed back that much ?

I'm torn between wanting mine ASAP and trying to get some return on investment before spending some more, then again; having it sooner will allow me to maybe rent my Red more and get some return on investment on the lens sooner, so better sooner than later !

Cheers,
Damien

If I order the 300mm now, will I be getting the "old" or the "new" version of the 300mm lens?

 I'm sure it won't happen here, but it wouldn't be the first time a company has changed a product that everyone says is fantastic and goes and screws it up! Can't understand why people can't leave things alone some times! But I have faith, I'm sure the new 300 will make the old one look like a Coke bottle!

I hope not! mine will be fedexed back quick as I can say, "Coke bottle"! :angry03:

As we couldn't wait for the 18 to 85 to come out and you cant even order one at the moment.
We purchased a used Cooke 18 to 100 f2.9 It's the most amazing lens and is about the same price (used) as the 18 to 85 when it comes on line.
keep your eyes peeled, it's a cracker if you can find one.

Just sharing.
