Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Gibby thanks for forging the way for those behind you with a camera and a dream. Being one of those guys, I took the leap about 2 years ago (saved up money, quit my day job to make my own movie) and I'm still waiting to land safely. But in the meantime, it's great to read your words of encouragement.
here's the cameras I've used:
rented dvx100a for 3 months,
movie mode on my fujifilm f30 for a year and a half,
bought xl2 with a 16x manual lens for 15 months,
sold the xl2 to start working in hd,
bought an hv20 with wide lens adapter last april.
I miss the dvx's and the xl2's manual controls but not their images. I was going through their old footage yesterday. I thought I was looking at proxies. As for the hv20, on an overcast day the hv20 is gorgeous. But clicking the exposure knob -11 times to keep the noisy gain out of my under lit shots every time I turn the camera on is a little annoying.
Hired to work on a documentary with the Sony EX-1.
Gonna buy Scarlet as soon as it comes out to use in countries that it is hard to sneak a shoulder cam in. If it is as stable to handle with as my GY-HD100, then I will sell all my gear and run only with Red.
Got my DVX100A in August '05. Couldn't resist the HV20, bought one in December '07. I alternate between the two now, depending on the context. For paying gigs I still use my DVX/SGpro combo. I was determined to find a way to get a Red, but Scarlet just made that a whole lot closer to reality. In the meantime, if I need something better than what I've got, I'll rent.
I was using a panasonic HVX200. I sold that about a month ago to pull the money together for a RED ONE. But I woke up this morning with a new plan. Purchase scarlet. For broadcast it should be great. But for my feature I must go with film. super 35mm. Even RED admits digital is not (yet) the quality of film. I'll wait with my little scarlet until the day comes when they 'are there'. When I see the latitude of film coming from a RED camera, that day will be the day I buy a RED ONE.
DVX100A. Believe it or not, I still use that a lot.
Other than that, a thousand rental cameras going from HVX's to Arri BL4's.
We're in the process of upgrading our camera system, and I really am trying to make things work with a RED ONE, but I might not be able to wait for the current lead times... Let's hope they pick up some momentum at their production line, so I don't have to waste my money on an EX-1...
Until very recently mostly Arri HSR2 and Aaton XTR, plus Digibeta. Still a bit of Digibeta, but mostly Varicam and Sony 750. Have an HPX2100 here at moment and it's very nice, but very looking forward to binning them all and covering all the bases with Red One! Also shooting Phantom HD and Miro cameras at the moment, and having a lot of fun with them!:shifty:

First, an Optura MV1, followed by an XL1S. Then an HDC-SD1, HV20 and HG10, used with the Brevis35. Then an HVX200, used with the Letus Extreme. On both Canon and Nikon glass. Was considering purchasing an Aaton A-Minima when I first saw the RED a couple of years ago. I was sold instantly, but didn't order until after NAB 2007. Soon, I'll be finally switching to the RED One with a Birger for Canon mount. And, yes, an ActionCam RED Edition.
We do post mainly, but also some production. We don't own any cameras, but we shoot with a variety of things, 35mm (ARRI), RED One, Varicam, F900, EX1, HVX200, Digibeta - depends on the job.
started with super 8 as a boy, then as a teen saved up for a hasselblad and worked mainly in stills for many years shooting on all the formats all the way up to 20x24 inch negs, did the odd commercial on arri 35mm cameras and a short on arri 16mm black and white
did own a hi8 camera but could never get excited about the low resolution of SD format, so I kind of waited for HD as film was too expensive to be experimental with
have recently decided to focus more on movies and purchased the canon A1 for a gig (HVX is cool but had to have the possibility of long recording times on location out to sea) have since added an anamorphic lens to get cinemascope aspect ratio out of an hdv camera
edit with fcp and am dabbling with shake and after effects
