  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We need an owners-only forum!

There is a hidden forum subsection open to those that have actually received their camera.

Edit: Sorry, it's so well hidden I can't find it myself! :) No need to send me further MPs asking for where it is.

ok guys lets think about it...

what we are really talking about is the noise/bashing factor...

ok lets figure out ways to reduce this.

-2 week penalties? pro:better behavior con: who should decide?
-more post erasings through mods?pro:less useless posts con:few mods decide what is useless

but i have to add, that i really like some of the fun threads, they are entertaining and relaxing from time to time.

First thing I read today was Jim saying "this is a dictatorship." Now you guys want an "imposed empire" of rules and regulations, due to a product that is in development more so towards the masses, and thus, as an outset, is giving more and more uneducated posts on RedUser's forums? This is starting to sound like a caste system of sorts that I do not like the sound of. Once, I read the line from Jim, it immediately became apparent that I might just as well have to go with a RED ONE, even though this is a great hardship for me, and prolong a relocation attempt I need to make as I must allocate the camera first before the venture. But it was all I needed to hear. I am sorry if any of you read my prior posts and were offended about hoping for a couple changes in the "upcoming" pro-sumer model. I guess I have nothing to say anymore really unless it concerns questions about the RED ONE. And I don't feel like making my points anymore to what seem like mostly teenagers in the Scarlet forums, that seem to be, excuse my language, kissing Jim's ass. I understand why many pro model RED owners, "with serial numbers," kiss Jim's ass...It's not only that some of the "pros" love the RED line of cameras, as I do too, but are invested in the companies gear and have formed a relationship with him, since he is unlike any other "dictator," as he makes an effort to know and understand his audience in these forums. He is certainly, one of my role models, in that I love what he's done and am only content with buying a RED, but I just can't kiss ass. I've always been my own entity, and maybe therein lies the problem.

I see the point, but not the solution. Too many people are posting on reduser just for the posting itself. Sometimes I wonder if they work in the industry at all... and still find time to write all this.
Point is: I want good information, I want to share it it for free.
Kissing somebody's ass does no one any good. If you love Jim: send him a postcard, or even better a beautifull shot with the Red One.
Another solution might be the thread "I love Jim, or I love the Red team". Anyone can express his feelings here, while serious information can be found on other threads.

We need an owners-only forum!

Since the RedUser forum is the mode of disseminating vital information to Red owners and the signal to noise ratio here has become intolerably low, we need an owners-only forum.

Actual owners would be able to post; all others would be read only. This way we could quickly and easily share the valuable information we all need without having to wade through the muck of armchair philosophy and outright idiocy of the woefully ignorant.

I realize that there are some non-owners who are frequent and professional users of the Red One who could make valuable contributions; they can simply PM an owner who can post their questions/comments.

When Scarlet ships, there could be a similar forum for those owners, but the Red One Owners forum should not include them.

If we do have an actual Red One Owners forum, we might even persuade Jim to continue to help us by posting there.

Good shooting and best regards to all,

Leo Ticheli
Director/Cinematographer

Leo, some of the worst noise here is actually made by some owners, and I make no bones about saying that.

Conversely, I find some of the most valuable posts and insights made by some non owners and new comers. What about all the top DP's or professionals that only hire? PMing an owner to posts sounds so dinky.

Yes, thank you! I agree.

Well, anyone could start one, it wouldn't have to be set up by Red. All you need is a domain name, hosting and a freeware bulletin board on the server. It would however be interesting to see how many people would really sign up to it in the end.

Same opinion here.
