So you have your new set of Red primes to go with your Red One. You get you EVF, 7" LCD, and dozens of other Red accessories. You happily pay your money for Red Ray to deliver your great new 4k movie. You get you Milk Duds and popcorn. . . oh you mean you actually want to watch your movie. . . uhhh. . . oh, no problem Sony has got your back for $50k. . . or is it your backside. . .

I need a little less Epic camera and a little more epic presentation!

Yeah, I thought that was the plan. And 4K monitors. Or did I just read what I wanted to read about IBC?

"All good things come to those who wait" - "And Rome wasnt built in a day" -Two sayings as old as the hills yet eternaly true - If you dont like that, ... Go and invent one yourself...I will take the first reservation holder, how much? And how long do you think it will take for you to complete building it?

Nope. Those were anoounced. But RED still need some stuff to blow other shows away... :)

Makes sense thoughm with a 4k playback solution to have a 4k projection solution, don't you think?

Apple Cinema 4k?

Apple Cinema 4k?

I heard from a very reliable source that Red isn't planning on going into the 4K projection business.

My prediction is that Steve Jobs and Co. is working on a new 50" or larger Cinema Display that will be capable of playing 4k from the RedRay. There are a lot of reasons why Apple needs a 4k monitor in their line up and the market is much bigger than Red users.

There's probably going to be a big push for ~200 dpi computer screens sometime in the next five years. This will be in large part just because that sort of resolution will make text much nicer to read on screen. But a neat side-effect is that a 24" monitor at ~200 dpi is 4K, or something close to it.

Of course, you'd have to sit really close to actually see every pixel on a 24" 4K display.

I don't think its Apple who makes a 4K display in first place - its more likely that a panel vendor comes along and makes the appropriate panels first.

So expect Samsung to make it happen.

Then, as an OEM as usual, Apple, Dell and HP will be those who catch those panels first and bring them out.

Most monitors are the same panels today, when they have the same size and resolutions. The only real difference is the electronics converting external signals into the internal panel signals (mostly LVDS based).

A while back a big german computer magazine tested like 10 23" displays. They found that ALL but one share the exact same panel. It was a Samsung panel. Only the true Samsung 23" had another one - an older (!) one. They left the first step towards their OEMs. BUT almost everyone had a different electronics, and the HP was the winner for best of all I/O and signal processing. The Apple was pushed down, being DVI only and not very adjustable in that case.

But I agree, 4K screens for the masses is a real need.

Brings me to ideas...

I think it's more important for us customers and Red that Red stays in the same league as they are now, manufacturing cameras, camera accesories and workflow breakthroughs.

There are plenty of companies working already on this side and it would only take the red team from what they are really up to.

The delivery system contrary is something we were really going to need in the future at an affordable price for showing of our incredible footage.

I hope 4K displays and panels will use new technology, not current LCD.
Also I hope 4K projector will use something other than current 1500-3000 hrs lasting lamps.

Yeah, someone at Red REALLY needs to answer what the point of having a 4k playback system is if you don't have anything that plays 4k. Right now, unless you have $50k, it's like having HD channels in 1995.

RedRay makes little sense without something to watch the stuff on...

Think IMAX. I know our local imax has a 4k projector that they could connect a Redray to. Also internal screens at large facilities would love this.

The Lamp hours are related to the type of bulb commonly used and the type of bulb relates to it colour and consistency proprieties xenon bulbs are it! right now. I'd love a 10K hr bulb, but I'd never compromise colour.

Dont forget that 1500hrs get you almost 6 weeks of constant grading and lets you bill out almost half a million dollars at indie rates (indie with a budget rates that is :-) )

I hope 4K displays and panels will use new technology, not current LCD.

Sony are showing a big 3K LCD at their booth if anyones interested

There are multiple vendors with 4k display solutions in the works.... and remember, RED RAY is not only a 4K playback solution, its 2k, 1080, and 720p.
