I was super excited about scarlet today, And I am very pleased with the specs. Two CF card slots! rock on RED !

But there one little thing that bugs me about the red one and HV20's  lovechild. She turned out... well kinda ugly:sick: . I mean it is really not a very sexy camera. I just think maybe it should have been more like the red one or something. Now, I know it's a prototype and it could change.

But Seriously I can't show that thing to people. I'll have to hide under all the accessories so no one can see it.

Aside from that I hope the lens will fully manual too. Now that would really rustle some feathers if it wasn't.

I'm not too bummed about it not being 35mm, but being able to take the lens would be realy cool, And as long as red or the other guys are makeing some 35 adaptors I'll be happy.

I still plan on buying a red one though just in case you were woundering.

So jim get it together with the art department and make that ugly duckling shine, and see what you can do for us DOFofiles.

Who cares about looks. It is all about the image quality and ergonomics. If you want to be pretty, become an actor and leave filmmaking to others.

Looks are very important..

I like ugly chicks
If it wasn't for the fixed lens...
I would be in love with her.
The body of Scarlet looks like a beast and I would show her off to every man on the dance floor.

I think it looks very promising. Lots of mounting points. Compatible with Red one accessories. Perfect to be mounted on jibs, helmets, airplanes, etc. I can think of so many different uses for it already. This is going to be one fun camera to use!

Not too sexy!

Not too sexy!

Haha . . . it looks like a hair dryer to me! Professional? Ok, if you say so. Oh well, I will just keep saving for the Red One. Seems like the image from Scarlet will not be worlds better than the EX-1 or similar prosumer stuff. At any rate I am not interested in it because none of these kinds of cameras will give me what I need to realize my artistic vision.

A fixed lens is like lazik eye surgery vs. wearing glasses.

The design would be better if it were like acehole's ball.

It's all subjective of course but I would say Red does not exactly have a history of elegant design so what did you expect? I'll still buy one anyway but I wish they would design something more classic and refined looking.

Apart from matters of taste, the only thing that bothers me about the design is how you're supposed to hold it.

I don't like the way that the camera is standing up. They need to get it layng down like the panasonic cloverfield camera. You getting what I mean less vertical more horizantal camera body.

I just can't wait to see a cooler sleaker version.

I actually think it looks AWESOME. It's the perfect camera I've been waiting to exist for many years now. Small enough to be unassuming when stealing shots on the subway or B-Roll in places you shouldn't be. Great for concert footage too. Small enough to always carry in a bag with you on trips.

I never wanted to own the A-cam in a production. I'd rather the production get that. But Scarlet as a beautiful and mountable B-Cam is amazing. I think it looks perfect.

Okay, I'm officially converted into a scarlet addict, and no, I won't give up my plans on buying a red. Red for the company, scarlet for personal use. It's awesome, it's well priced, blah, blah, blah. You are gods.

BUT:

The body design... well... I don't care if it's ugly. In fact it was only until recently I began to accept the redone as a nice looking camera, and basically who cares. BUT IT DOES NOT LOOK VERY ERGONOMIC.

I am not in vegas, I haven't seen it in person or not even held it, but from the looks of things, that thing cannot be "pistol-held" like the form factor suggests, unless you're in NBA. Now all those hinges and grips attached? jesus guys, you have a lightweight, small (almost pocket) camera and have to use those clumsy grips on the side? Hold it with both hands? no shoulder or even elbow support? Or are we supposed to cradle the thing around permanently?

Listen, don't make it T shaped. If you do, don't let the grip get so big and full of controls (and CF card slots!). Leave the bulk of the camera up and let the grip be a grip, made for the sole reason of fitting in your hand. If the lens is too high above the tripod hole it could make tilting look clumsy. Handholding it can't be hard. Let people get this camera places never imagined. Let documentary filmakers do amazing work with it - Barebones!

It doesn't have to be all modular in a sense it doesn't have to require grip accessories. Sure it's great you can configure it, but should it be mandatory?

maybe I'm rushing to conclusions here. I hope so. The project is so intelligent, that I cannot believe it will be so bad. But I'd love to see a picture of it in someone's hand that proves me wrong.

Congratulations!

I ain't gonna have sex with the thing.

the images are what matters.

I'm ready to work with a tin can if it gives me 2/3"\3k\raw\120fps\cf\detachable lens [:)].
