  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: FIRMWARE - BUILD 15 (v2.2.5)

Build 16 has a "view RAW" option.

We know what needs to be done... we just need time to do it. :-)

Jim

So sometimes you could save a bit of time by giving such note earlier to the begging masses out there...

But I guess creating the hype could be addicitive :)

Found a medication meanwhile, for those who read your recent threads?
You promised us to keep us informed, on this one, at last!

Looking ambitiously forward to build 16 now. Be sure, 16 will not be lost during NAB for a very simple reason:

Many of us can't attend NAB (me too, unfortunatley) and so all we get from the show is hype infos and maybe some info on 16 or maybe, even 16 alpha/beta, wow. Then all we can really take hands on is 16. From the rest we had to dream for a while, but 16 is going to become a hands-on experience. It'll not be lost nor overseen...

Have a good show,
Axel

I really appreciate that Build 16 will provide the opportunity to combine the RedOne's on board evaluation tools, like the histogram, with the RAW image data to provide more precise empirical feedback instantly.

When we were limited to the rec 709 data there were times I had to shoot quick test clips and use RedAlert or RedCine in order to eval the footage without the rec 709 transform. While this only took 5 minutes with a lapper it was still an extra step.

Thanks Red Leader & Red Team.

FINALLY

I assume all of the exposure meters will reference the RAW data in this mode? Also, when we're in this mode... will we be limited to a 5,000˚ K preview, or will it reference our selected color temperature for preview?

Will it be possible to enable only on certain monitoring paths as we please? I'd love to have it on the LCD [with the meters visible] but not on the HD-SDI preview output.

This rocks. What a welcome surprise.

[edit: holy crap, I've made 3,000 posts...]

lol.

Oops! Did Jim just spill a bean?

Like a kid with dozens of secrets. Are you squirming around on your chair, sitting on your hands so you won't type something and let the cat out of the bag?

Raw view! Cool!

I'll repeat the question about changes made from build 2.2.1 to 2.2.5. I'm particularly interested if these things have been addressed:

- Cameras "hanging" or "freezing" on bootup.

(This is one thread that discusses it. There are others:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11202)

- Cameras that have been shutting off spontaneously since upgrading to build 2.2.1.

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11075
(again, I've seen other threads that mention this)

Bad news. Our first day with the Release Build 15 (2.2.5) and the camera froze on bootup about 30 percent of the time. It sometimes took three attempts to get it to work.

We also had LCD stutter in the lower third, which we hadn't seen for weeks. For us, the release build seems less stable than the beta, except that the spontaneous power-down seems to have stopped.

I'm wondering if anyone is using one of the latest model Sharp 19" monitors with the release build.
I went out and bought one after checking it worked with the first version of build 15.
I'm now on the second release and don't have access to download the third just now.
Now the left side of the screen is green and the image is offset to the right. Monitor is unuseable direct from the camera.
Have checked with other examples of the same model monitor, and have the same results. A larger screen Sharp works fine.
I bought this to use as a director's monitor.
This kind of phenomenon makes it pretty hard to buy monitors...

Thanks for the update. Disappointing news, to say the least.

Anyone else?

Maybe I don't understand what is meant by "RAW"... I would think, that if you can set a color temperature, then it's not "RAW" ?

If you have a RAW output, you will need a monitor to view it...

Because wouldn't the RAW output be a match to the sensor capability?
4520 (h) x 2540 (v)

Which brings me to post from Stuart in 2006:
Assuming we monitor at 1/2 horizontal and vertical resolution, we'd have a 2K (2048 x 1152 pixels) or 2K+ (2260 x 1270 pixels) resolution image, both of which fit very nicely into that Apple 30" monitor. Now I'm not saying that this is therefore the only option available, but it does show the inherent flexibility with RED that we can consider using these relatively low cost, but high quality screens as monitoring options.

NAB prediction:
Half resolution RAW monitoring from a Red 2k Monitor via the LCD port from the camera.
