  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there a sun hood that exactly fits the RED LCD?

Hi all. . .

I'm curious if anyone has found or can recommend a sunhood that exactly fits into the RED LCD for outdoor use.

Thanks much.

Stephen

The hoodman 600 is almost exactly the right size. We just bought and are using one with our RED LCD. Its a really nice fit! Velcro it on with the use of some extra velcro we bought it works perfectly. And we still have access to the buttons on the top.

I will take some pictures this evening, we are going out on a shoot.

My hands probably aren't big enough to do a proper job : ). 35-45 dollars for a hoodman 600 seems like a good recomendation. Anyway, I really just wanted to make my first post lol.

If you haven't already, take the camera outside with the LCD on it. You may be pleasantly surprised...

Not saying a hood is unnecessary in all situations... but the LCD is the best daylight-viewable LCD I've ever used.

First of all, Breitenbach, you are NOT welcome on this, or any other, forum of which I am privileged to take part. Your reputation as a gutter scoundrel is exceedingly well known here in Kansas City.

(Fear not, REDHEADS, Ryan is going to be working on my film this summer. :-)

I will definitely take it outside tomorrow, Brook. I have never seen an LCD that didn't need a hood to my aged (51) eyes, but, you're right, I might be surprised. BUT, I AM glad that the Hoodman 600 works very well.

Why thank you, Mr. Hedge. . . sincerely! I'll take unsolicited compliments whenever they come. . . 'cause the solicited variety aren't nearly as much fun.

:-)

Good luck with your projects, as well.

Stephen

Laselvasurf-

Can you post some pics of that hoodman hooked up to your camera? I am thinking about buying one in the next couple of days. Curious to see how it works.. and looks..

I just bought a Hoodman H600 and I don't find it to be a perfect fit. It looks like it's made for a 4x3 monitor. So, widthwise its fine, but the height is about 1/2" too big, so it falls over the bottom of the monitor. Not at all tragic - and it can probably be improved with a pair of scissors - but not slick either.

Sorry it has taken this long to get a picture up. We've been shooting non-stop. We did install the hoodman 600 and it works perfectly. Here are a few shots of the setup.

These pictures also show our rail system. Different setup than I think anyone else is using. So far, we love it! We needed it to be super portable yet tough, so this is what we did.

lasel, do you have a separate Sherpa for that lens? good god man looks like a
hernia waiting to happen!!

When we can... As assistant is a huge plus for this camera. But, we shoot nature, and sometimes you can't get a "crew" to where you need to be. The lens fits nicely into a lowepro backpack and the camera and tripod can sit(with a little padding) comfortable on ones shoulder. Not as easy as a single pack with an HVX200 in it... But it is definitely do-able.

My favorite lens hood is a 6x6 piece of duvateen draped over me and clipped under the matte box with a #1 grip clip. ;-)

The good old fashion way always works! We have definitely done that more than once! Sometimes, it actually works better than anything else.

Fellas,

I've made many shields with black foam core, and velcro. It's worked great, and I can have long or short ones depending on the day.

Loops on the hood, hooks on the monitor.

The hoodman is great as well. Many options available.

Good luck,

Bryan
