  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who can rehouse a good set of Nikons

I think Vladimir is referring to a story about The Bourne Identity using a couple of custom rehoused Nikon lenses. The prices we've heard is prohibitive, however. If someone was offering a solution that might be lower because of the quantity, there might be a lot of us interested.

crap, I'm trying to remember where the thread was, but there's a site that sells rehoused nikons (3 or 4 primes and a zoom) for something like $3000-$3500

i thought it sounded like a pretty good deal, although still too much for my cheap ass :)

I like this idea.

As soon as I get my Nikon mount I will post review of these lenses that I purchased from Peter. I can say the build quality is very good and he seeks out the best of these AI(s) lenses.

I'm ordering a set of the high speed primes plus the 24mm F2.4 and 105mm F2.5

I sent them a email on Sat, still waiting for a reply.

If the lenses are hand picked then this seems good. But keep in mind what you are getting is a gear ring, a lube job and a filter holder. They still focus backwards but that's not as much of a deal as it use to be.

So what? ... This is only an issue if you use a focus puller who's used to cine lenses. If that's the issue - get a follow focus that is reversible or get a wireless system where this can be changed. I really think this is a non-issue; now lens-breathing... that's another story.

I don't think the rplens products qualify as "rehoused lenses". They've just presses some focus gears on the outside of the regular focus ring, and removed the iris clicks.

P+S Technik Digital lenses are rehoused Nikon-mount (Contax-made) Carl Zeiss lenses.

Anyone know how to take a Nikon AI lens and remove the 'hard clicks' yourself? I remember Evin Grant saying something about how he was going to post a 'How To' guide but my guess that he is super-busy..

On your lenses or you'll buy some from ebay?
I am asking that because Peter spent some 2 week just to find me lenses that are in good condition to be greased, click removed and dampened.

Coki,

I have 4 lenses laying around.. 28,35,50,85 - Was thinking about removing the 'hard clicks' if it was user-friendly. Really curious to see how these vintage lenses hold up on the Red.

Drew,

I know that Paul Duclos in SoCal does this, I talked with him a little while over the phone. From what I gathered, it seemed like a really simple procedure. The zoom lenses were a different story though. Nice meeting you in Vegas!
