  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon Mount

can anyone give me a tip on uploading a TIFF???

When you hit reply, directly above the area in which you type and furthest to the right, there is a red 'open' icon. Clicking this will open up another window called 'files upload center'. Simply navigate to the file you wish to upload from there, and click 'upload file'.

Shots look great Stephen, I appreciate the sharing :)

But I'm just curious-to me all the nikon shots so far (not just this batch) look a little soft to me, compared to the tons of PL lens footage. Is it because of the nikons?? (I hope not!) Or maybe it's a collimation issue. Or maybe it's just my eyes. Sorry, no one has said anything about it and it just doesn't look quite right to me. Stephen, can you do a test with a wide lens perhaps? Shoot some wide day exteriors? That would be awesome. When I get mine I'll post a piece of Hawai'i :w00t:

OMG, please ship me mine now!!

Congrats Doug, looking forward to cool stuff from you...

as soon as Evin has concluded his tests and gives it his blessing, we can unleash the Fedex Hounds...

Stephen, thank your for taking the time to share. Shots are actually among the very early from the Nikon mount. Thanks again.

All my compliments to Doug.
(Btw, thanks for the Peleng, It's really a little smart lens, freakin' wide!).

Can't wait for a test fotage from you!

Last one. . . I'm NOT a DP. . . so I won't subject myself to any more potential ridicule, but I like this shot. This one was shot in 4K using the Underdahl mount and the Nikon 85mm. Same processing as above (but not cropped).

Stephen

I also have one of the Underdahl mounts (shinny), series 1 - 5 :clown2: , and the results are fantastic! I just love it. I will be shooting a short next week so I will post some grabs as soon as I can.

Color rendition from Nikkor lenses is definitely better then with the cine lenses from RED or ARRI/ZEISS.

Something like between the Cooke and Panavision Primo L series.

Looking forward to get soon universal mount from P+S Technik where

I can mount Nikkor's, Leica's, PL's and PV's (Panavision Anamorphics)

to my RED without swapping the main mount.

A very smart mount solution.

Stay tuned.

Hi Sanjin,
are you talkin 'bout a real product?

Yes, I am in München next week.

Then P+S Technik will do a technical measurement on RED.

In about week or two I getting the IMS (universal mount).

Also I'm sure they will offer the RED IMS as a product after that very soon.

The thing is that you cannot do the installation (shimming etc...) of the main mount by yourself.

You have to send or bring your RED to the factory in Ottobrunn (a suburb of München).

More news to come.

Stay tuned.

Thanks Sanjin.
I'm tuned. Not really happy about the whole "send to the factory" thing, but tuned...

Is the installation procedure the same as in the video with the balloon and lens tissue, or has that been refined further?

Baloon and lens tissue are suggestion from Doug. I think that are still valid...

JFirestone.

keep in mind that

"P+S Technik is best known for its support of ARRIFLEX products and conversions

- however, the company offers a wide range of other products."

It's a serious German company and the German mechanical engineering is the best in the World.

Not really happy about the whole "send to the factory" thing

Philip Vischer (Sales Manager) informed me yesterday, 21st March 2008, that modifications were being made to the mount to determine whether it would be better to send in your camera to have the mount fitted or whether you would be able to fit the mount yourself at some point.

Very good Dukeswharf.

All about that will be clear in a week or two.

Doug, this sounds as a fantastic idea! Waiting to see the result and I pretty much hope that if the result is good RED would adopt that idea too!

Sanjin, thanks for sharing the information about the P+S technic IMS. I believe I do not speak only for myself when I say that quite some people are looking forward both to the factory vs home mounting solution as well as, of course, the price!
