Simple question, really:

Are users powering down the Red before switching lenses?

Is there potential for harming the sensor by switching lenses with the camera on? Obviously it slows down your work if you have to power down every time you want to switch lenses.

Every time i've done it I think about , should I or shouldn't I, but it has never been a problem.

You should be able to unmount and pull the RED Drive without powering down.

You don't need to power down to switch lenses, there are no internal elements that could cause damage from exposure without a lens. The only thing you need to be careful of is dust, if the camera is on or not.

But Jarred, what would happen if you were swapping out a lens and a little kid ran by and shot a laser pointer into the sensor.

That's absurd.

Although I'm concerned - what about if while the lens is off the earth is invaded by aliens and some aliens invade the set and shoot the hyper-photonic deathray directly into the sensor? Is the Mysterium sensor protected against photonic death weapons? And will the lens have the interrupting effect that I think it will? :alien: :sarcasm:

I don't think so, that level of protection only comes standard with build 16.

Why didn´t I think of that before I bought the camera?
Now I´ve wasted all this money .........

Red-drive

Red-drive

But I guess you should power down if you connect / disconnect the Red raid. A simple unmount (Undo / Exit) is not enough there, right??

Yes it is. Pressing the UNDO + EXIT will unmount the RED-DRIVE - you can hear it spin down if you listen closely enough.

Here is food for thought.
When I have changed lenses on my digital still camera I have been told by some camera maker reps that it is advised to power down the camera as the sensor is charged and may have be more likely to attract dust that when it has no charge in it. Like a magnet. Just be wise I guess and always shoot wide open to mim. the dust on the sensor. Or only change when its safe from dust....

I think certain people need more to do.
