Hi all,

Elite Optica has now posted "one" pic of their new Digital Super 35mm set on their website under the "pictures" tab. Have a look. They made an 18mm T1.3, 24mm T1.3, 35mm T1.3, 50mm T1.3, 75mm T1.3, and a 100mm T1.4. Each one sells for 4,500 Euro except for the 100mm, it sells for 5,000 Euro. Just thought I'd share.

here's a pic comparing the 50mm to each other.

This is what they say:

Concerning 35mm Digital lenses, they can be used with cameras such as ARRI 435, HD cameras with adapter P + S Technic and also cameras with matrix 18 х 24mm. They are analogous to ELITE S35 MKIII optically but they have smaller size and weight (the diameter of blind 85mm)

The diameter of the Elite primes are 110mm and the digital are 85mm

It's not specially built they're still S35mm lenses, just smaller.

The Elite primes are almost identical in size and design to COOKE S4.
The digital are (supposedly - haven't tried them) more in the size of ZEISS superspeed & standard. The design seem to stay the same.

As for resolution etc the specs are quite close to COOKE S4.

I think the "Digitial" Version uses a helical focus mechanism and the larger version uses a cam based system.

I assumed this but couldn't get a straight answer out of optica (over the telephone using a Russian translator).. Fred could maybe confirm this for us?

Optica had said to me in December that the New Digital lenses would end up T1.5.. I hope this means that they have changed there mind.

Funny how a lens company can't get its marketing shots infocus:biggrin:

I will try to find out what focus they use, since I'm interested myself. It will most probably take a couple of days (they're russian) before they answer, but i'll drop them an e-mail.

I've been thinking about setting up a bulk deal - that way I think we can get down to $ prices to what their € list prices are (www.optica-elite.com). If people would be interested? It needs an order of minimum 10 sets and 8 lenses minimum in each set.

Now the problems are following. They're russian, which means that import/export is a big hustle. The lenses do need someone to look at them when they arrive. Now I have a lens technician in London who has looked at mine and he could do so at all of them (he's highly regarded here in London and will give them the best attention needed). You see to send lenses back is quite an operation so I've arranged that he fixes what's needed when they arrive.

Now this is just an estimated guess, but with him included I think we can land on the figure of $ price tag for what their € list is. Some lenses might have to be sent back (because they can only be serviced through Elite, but that will be a very low percentage, if even a single one).
The technician can also service them in the future for you.

Maybe we can get Abelcine to be a part of this - for the US buyers? Since they're retailers for them?

Now I have these lenses and everybody I've shown them to or who have used them really like them. They're so close to COOKE S4 in both design and look that you very often think you're shooting on them. I shot a whole commercial changing Elites and COOKE S4's without making any notes to when which were used. In telecine we couldn't tell the difference.

The biggest difference is that the Elites don't have the /i data link, but for the price I think you get a lot for the buck.

If your interested in a deal write on this thread. If you know you would go for it already, PM me.

Let's see if we can get you some real cine glass.

Fred,

As you suggest, Abel Cine Tech would be happy to be involved to help on this deal. Let's be in touch. I agree that the Elites are very nice and underappreciated glass.

I hope the lenses are better than the picture they posted !

Great so far it's 6 people interested. We need 10 sets, 8 lenses for it to become a bulk deal, so we're getting there. Remember there's nothing saying you can't order less. As long as we get up to that sum.

After the weekend I will contact Optica-Elite and Abelcine to work out the logistics of this deal. As soon as I know I think we change the topics of this thread to a bulk deal thread. Have a nice weekend guys.
