how about a on / off switch in the settings to enable a warning when pressing the power off button -- "are you sure you want to power down?" I continually accidentally press the power button while camera is on and --- bang!!! ouch instant off.

I will want this feature only if there is an option to disable it. IMO, bumping the power button doesn't seem to be a real problem and there are times I need to power down, swap a battery or do something and power back up and don't need an extra step in there.

The power button is so big and easy to press next to all the menu control buttons. I think a second push of the power button to confirm doesn't represent too much hassle. Simply don't press anything for three seconds or press another button to cancel shutdown.

Or just make it so you have to hold the power button in for 4 seconds like when you force a computer to quit.

Now, I'd go for that. :)

I can't agree more. My first and only test with the red I hit the button while saying "what does this one do?" total Homer moment.

Main problem is it should have been a toggle switch just like every high quality film or digital camera on the market. A button will always be a problem.

Hold down for a few seconds is the way to go. No brainer.

Also, I would like to see the power down warning when there is only a tiny bit of battery left give you more time. Right now you get about 20 seconds. Not enough time to make decisions about what you will do.

With various accessories disapating the battery at varying rates, it would be good to have this warning a little earlier, so that there is anough time to finish a take, and then plan a swap out.

Of course, there is the normal battery meter, but sometimes while under pressure, one forgets to look at the meter as often as one should.

This last chance message should give a bit more time... possibly double or triple the amount of time.

while we're on the topic of the buttons - it would also be nice to be able to lock the preset buttons on the front left. I have been continually pressing against these when on shoulder mount.

Is that why the camera goes off every time I press the 'card eject' button? :-) (that's what I thought it was when I first saw it!)

I often hit the power button when looking for a place to put my fingers to gently pull out a card.

Add my vote to some sort of 'are you sure' system.

I support the PPB
Power Button Bill.
Please vote yes on reform for the power button.
