Finally! Here we have a raw directory, hot off Red #27 to you all. The entire directory, including the QT proxies, is zipped up for your consumption.

The purpose of the test was audio, but I figured I might as well make it interesting to look at it, and record in the highest quality settings possible for the Red.

Filmed: Feb 17
Red Settings: 4k 16x9, Redcode 36, 1/48 shutter, ASA 320, Build 14, RedDrive
Red Zoom: 50mm, T5.6
Audio: Sound Devices MM1 as preamp, Sennheiser MKH50 mic

Post: Do it yourself! Please post it back here if you do. Given that I'm posting my first ever raw file, I'd love to see what people do with it.

Go to the RedRelay to get it!

My other clips can be found here.

As an extra bonus, here's the BTS clip of the setup.

Hey Shawn, nice wine collection and looks like we both collect corks. My prize cork is from a bottle of 59 Chateau Latour that came from Hitchcock's wine cellar.

You know Ken Hitchcock, PB? ;)

Yeah Ken and I are great friends !!... not. I got a bottle of Alfred Hitchcock's wine from Ernies restaurant in San Francisco back in 1992. Naturally I drank it and kept the empty and the cork.

Shawn,

Are you noticing any differences with Red-36? I don't see any and haven't been using that setting. I actually see more noise in R-36

I'm not quite sure, I assume it is but maybe I just haven't shot the right kind of footage yet. When I look back at my candle footage shot with build 13 and Shawn's with build 14, I think mine has less noise. Lots of variables though so I'm not sure.

Thanks! I'll have to test the footage in the morning when I get into work. I'm curious how people are processing 4k 16:9 with audio right now? When did Redcine support audio?

Compression works a bit as a noise reduction agent which might explain some of it. But 36 will have less trouble with difficult and complicated footage.

Build 15 is much more sophisticated in how we treat 28 and 36. We are now up to about 30 changes in the DSP and counting from Build 14 to Build 15. Plus a bunch of other stuff.

Jim

Can't wait Jim!

From your own experience, working with Build 14, what type of scene have you shot where Red-36 made sense to use?

Great ! 15 sounds like a landmark build.. Thanks Jim & Red Team!

Just play the enclosed QT wrapped files...

Jim

How do I play this? In redcine?

Oh hey, someone on the thread actually wants to see the enclosed footage, cute!

Thanks Tom ;-)

Shawn. Is it possible to get a look at the R3D file from your candlelight shoot?
Saves me the trouble of buying a truckload of candles...

so in build 15, Red Settings: 4k 16x9 with AUDIO in red cine ??i can not understand :innocent: ?
thanks Shawn cause you had a big reponsibility everytime you test something
for first time.

This is still Build 14

I get half a frame of squiggly noise with the QT Proxies. That's the way it's supposed to be because they are 16x9, right?

Also, the proxies play very choppy for me, even the smallest one. I assume that is because I'm using Quicktime 7.4.1. Is that right? I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.33.
