Hey there, just another update from me about our own SSDs for legacy RED® cameras with 960GB of storage. I wanted to give you an update on our progress and let you know where we stand.

Currently, the final samples for the SSD are being produced and shipped, so they should arrive soon. Once they arrive, we’ll conduct some intensive testing and then open the preorder website.

On the preorder website, you’ll have the option to choose between RED ONE®, DSMC1®, and DSMC2® types of SSDs. Please note that this is only the M.SATA-sized SSD. A mini mag® sized shell with the PCB is also in the works, but it’s not yet ready.

For DSMC1®, simply plug our SSD into a REDMAG® with an M.SATA to SATA adapter. For RED ONE®, remove the CF or REDMAG® side module and plug it into the SATA and power ports of the M.SATA to SATA adapter. This way, you won’t need a CF or REDMAG® module at all.

From a technical perspective, this SSD could be the best SSD ever made for those cameras. It’s also a very custom solution, not an „off-the-shelf“ SSD (I wish there was an easier solution for all of this haha). Everything is designed and produced with my specific selection of parts.

We’ve put a lot of effort into this project, including night shifts with blood, sweat, and tears. :D

To stay updated about the preoder, please visit this link: https://www.cinelux.co.uk/products/cinemag and register to the waitlist.

Feel free to spread the word and let your friends know about this. We’ve put a lot of thought and effort into this project, and we’re excited to share it with you.

By the way, we have a very limited number of those final examples, and we’re looking for people to review them. If you’re interested in participating, please let us know.

I hope this product has a successful release as it definitely helps manage a pain point for many RED shooters.
Thank you for your efforts on this and the update.

Thank you for your kind words! We don’t wanna see so many very good cinema cameras dead because you won’t get any new, trustful media for them. Also funny to have 960gb on RED ONE® which was never produced like that. Haha

I'm considering one for my RED One MX.

Yeah so I tested it directly on a friends RED One and did function instantly. You must be on the latest firmware. Also another friend did received another one and had no issues so far. Funny to see like 4-6hours recording time on them. Also it’s like the only option for anyone with RED ONE and DSMC1 without the mini mag extension to get a new ssd. And the image of the camera was so good, I definitely need one in the future. :)

I forgot to mention the offloading times. Since we use faster ssds we get the fastest transfer speed and not limited on Sata2 on RED ONE.

I didn't think of that but yes that would be nice to have faster offload.
I still use my R1 on shoots alongside Komodos and a Komodo X when I can. It has somewhere between 3500 to 4000 hours on it (hours meter reset a few times) but it still works well and yes the image is still very good.

That combination, crazy. I just tried LiColor2 on my Monstro and it's crazy. Try to not record long parts on the R1 :D

Btw., Pinocchio Unstrung is partly shot on a development version of the 960gb CineMag :)

I am eager to see the results and final product, unifying all of these still very capable cinema cameras with a shared media base will go a long way towards including more RED products in peoples' lineup of offerings and just to have them as tools again for many that may have moved on to other systems. As you said, having unheard of long recording times on a RED One changes the game for many that would dismiss it otherwise.

Do you have images of the most recent units you've made connected to Red One? Sorry if I have missed it in other threads. I'd like to see how the final design came together. Thanks!

As of now it's only the msata ssd. A new side module is no problem but it would be very expensive and since I don't know the demand, its not the first thing in my mind.
