  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Phase One has two Trichromatic backs. The latest one is the IQ4100 (100Mpx). Its ISO caps out at 12,800. That's only one stop less than the IQ4150 (150Mpx), although noise pattern in shadows will be cleaner. It's worth giving up a stop (and some resolution) for the best colour possible.

The more you think about it, the more it makes sense that people find that digital cameras aren't as good as film as far as colour goes. Some digital cameras cannot capture some colours properly, precisely because they compromised on the Bayer filters.

Often accuracy isn't what the industry is looking for. Arri developed their "texture" feature (they had noise reduction before that) and other color artefacts (skin tone, red... adjustments) to have a nice picture. Accuracy is not the goal.

But thechnicals flaws are sometime wellcome for the eyes of some people. Other prefer to have more "accuracy".

Be it in sensors specs, lenses, filters, light spectrum , flairs....

Black and white film was a big technical flaw ;-)

It’s important not to confuse fetish with reality. White Blood Cells on my Columbia 360 sounded “better” than it ever did on CD with studio monitors. I can assure the OP that it wasn’t a limitation of modern systems, actually quite the opposite.

I think you'd agree that having accurate colours to begin with is an advantage. And it's different for digital: if your Bayer filter is off, colours will come out wrong, especially challenging colours.
