  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi,

I need a new editing PC and am wondering what specs would work well with 4/5K RED footage? Will probably use Premiere (would like smooth playback at 1/2 on the original footage, but possibly open to working with proxies if a good idea) but might try Resolve.

Thanks

my pc does pretty good with 8k playback at 1/2 sometimes i have to drop lower. My specs are
amd ryzen 9 3900x 12 core cpu
nvidia 2080 super gpu
64gb ddr4 ram
850 psu

My os and programs are running on 1tb nvme drive and i transfer footage to another 2tb nvme. then transfer everyting to a hdd when done. I do want to upgrande to a 4080 or 4070 next year but my case is small and new gpu's are massive.

I would look for 8core or higher cpu
at least 8gb or 10gb gpu
32gb or ram or higher
everything on nvme or ssd

It all depends on your budget. What is your budget for this build? Can you go 10 ~ 20% higher if need be?

Thanks for the responses.

My resources are pretty limited (hoping to spend under $2K) but I can be flexible. Looking for a setup where I can work with the footage easily, and notice if anything's amiss

Your options are limited at 2k. The GPU that you may need for this build is more than 75% of your allocated budget.
