Finally had a second to shoot something quick from my patio on a sunday to test grading, etc, etc ,etc. I own 2 of them but haven't had the time to really shoot anything and have been working on building them out. Finally got a decent Nikon Lens to start working with them. This is the second time ive owned a RED ONE and this time around is by far a happier time than the first back in 2015.

That looked really good. The Red ONE sure does hold up, image-wise.

What are your thoughts on these two questions:

1. Is the AA filter too strong?

2. What is the true base ISO of the sensor?

No I Don't think the filter is too strong. and the MX is rated at 800

Is that how hat you would rate it? I have heard one DP say that its true ASA is more like 320. Although everyone has their own reasons.

Granted some of this depends on your shooting circumstances (i.e how controlled the lighting and highlights are, how anal one is about noise)
but the RED One MX can definitely be rated at 800 and it's usually best to do so particularly outdoors. You also get better highlight protection at that rating and risk premature clipping below that.
There was a "controversy" that light sensitivity at 800 might behave more like 400-500 when working with light meters but I think part of that was related to the gamma curves RED used at the time.

Noise on RED One MX is relatively pleasing.

RED One MX (particularly with IPP2) can still make excellent images in 2023.
For their 1st camera (2nd sensor) RED knocked the ball out of the park and then some.
Probably has the best approach to audio for any RED as well.

Shots look nice Mike.
I still actually remember the short you did (I think it was called "Who's your Daddy")
that was shot on the first R1 you had. It reminded me of classic 90s Gregg Araki.

That film you are thinking of Brian was called "SugarDaddy". Not the best thing i've made in the 24 years i've been creating but im humbled you compared something i did to that of Gregg's work as I'm a life long fan of him.

I thought it was quite a funny short film.
Filmmaker Roddy Bogawa who was my teacher in film school is good friends with Gregg Araki so I got a bit acquainted with his films through him.

IIRC, I think Araki shot a couple of his later films on RED.
Look forward to seeing more of what you film with your RED One MXs.
