  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cloverfield Sneak Peek Clip

"DCS member Nick Theodorakis, who served as the Digital Imaging Supervisor on Cloverfield, pointed out that it was not shot on Genesis, as we had listed on information from IMDB, but was instead a combination of Viper, F23, and HVX-200."

Found it:

From the NY Times:

"Mr. Abrams figured he could make the modern-day equivalent of “Godzilla” for $25 million or less, if he hired a bunch of no-name actors, shot much of the movie with a single $1,500 hand-held camera and threw the rest of his cash into special effects."

Now I am starting to wonder how they got such a good deal on an HVX. $1,500 is quite cheap.

I've seen movie before. I thinks its called the Blair Witch Project.

Seriously, the movie looks great. But they stole that idea straight out of the cradle. And they also stole their advertising campaign as well.

I say good work.

Sorry, but Blair Witch wasn't the first to do it. It was just the first to strike it big off of the style on a low budget. Cloverfield isn't re-inventing the wheel, isn't trying to: It's just putting different rubber on the rim.

Anyone else going to see it at 12:01?

All I have to say was that it was fucking awesome. The best action film I think I've seen in years. By far Matt Reeves best film ever and defiantly comes close to Abram's best.

Just know going in that you are there to see a monster movie. Expect nothing else.

Oh... and the Star Trek teaser was awesome also.

So, Cloverfield. Anyone who tells you that you don't know where the monster comes from and what it is by the end of the film just didn't pay attention. The last shot tells you everything you need to know. The film is funny and exciting while keeping it real (or as real as possible). These critics that say "Godzilla" meets "Blair Witch" are seriously diluted since that is truly a skin-deep review. These people must not have ever enjoyed such films as Rocky Horror Picture Show, La Noche de Walpurgis, or Blood Freak- since this film is most defiantly more than just a beefed up BWP or Gojira. In the end, Cloverfield will sit somewhere between my favorite Hollywood action pics and the Draughthouse/Friday Night movie classics.

Now, the downside. For anyone 30 and under it's a sure hit. The ceiling age of the principle actors will likely restrict the viewership to the bookends of anxious high-schoolers to grad students. I'm not saying people over that age can't enjoy it but it is defiantly one of the defining films for Generation Y.

Sorry, YouTube- these guys kicked your ass. This is no film to download (if you do that sort of thing) this is a must-see in theaters or in HD- when Paramount execs pull their heads out of their buttocks' and settle on Blu-ray.

I'm going again tomorrow.

Interesting idea, but the shaky camera is nauseating. I hate that jittery style.

Why did they spend money on a score for the credits? I agree you can go to see it as a monster movie and spend your money or just wait for pictures of the monster to be leaked/released and be just as happy maybe more happy because you still have your money. Don't expect anything else from this film other than filling that marketing created void. I was not happy with the film.

A barf bag might be a good idea also, if you get sea sick you will need it.

It was definitely an experience, the effects work was excellent.

I'd go just to see the Star Trek trailer, wasn't expecting that and I thought it was brilliant (almost don't even want to see the movie, don't know how it can hold up, but loved the mood of the trailer).

I can agree, the trailer really gives Star Trek respect with an acceptable fresh start feel, the likes of which I have never seen. It almost feels like its paying Star Trek a tribute. I believe without a doubt that this Star Trek film could breath life back into Star Trek and get it back on TV full time. The Star Trek trailer was better than Cloverfield, haha!

I'm sorry. You have failed.

Isn't going to just about any hollywood action movie essentially filling a marketing created void?

Who goes to see a random action film they havent seen a preview for? We all say something to the effect of: "hey I want to see that because (insert actor, effect, director, or dp here)."

If the marketing made a void in you that you felt compelled to fill then the marketing firm just did their job!

Off topic comment...

Reactor88, I don't know if you knew this, but the number "88" is often used as code by white supremacist groups. (Something about how "H" is the 8th letter, so it stands for "Heil Hitler.")

I'm sure it was unintentional, but just be aware that some people may get the wrong impression of your company name.

Exactly, 15 years ago, that trailer would have brought a tear to my eye.
