That's the thing about full frame lenses if you don't stop them down enough or focus accurately enough they will always look more soft than an equivalent S35 lens on a smaller sensor with a deeper depth of field. The more expensive Full Frame sensor designed lenses will be sharper at wider apertures than the more economical designed lenses. Also more skill is required in focusing full frame lenses on a full frame sensor than a lens on a smaller sensor.
