  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SCARLET MX worth in 2021

Oh, I've had the same problem. De-installation and a clean install helped

The Classic Reboot Trick never fails! This was my next step. Even BMD forums had a brainache to what had happened. Time to re-boot.

Hey Rand,

Thanks! Appreciated. It was a good old simple s-curve.

Regarding the Davinci Resolve business, I do use it as my only NLE. Problem at the moment is that I am only getting black frames from it. I knew how to do the export before in the grading tab / stills capture. However, I have gotten some funky glitch that is giving me only black stills! Have you heard of this problem before?

1. My files and hdds are online;
2. Updated to the latest and greatest version;
3. this problem is happening with my R3D, XAVC, BRAW and even DNxHD codecs

... it is driving me up the wall, as I want to deliver a decent frames board to my clients and I have to grab those stills from either VLC or Redcine-X for the red files.

It just seems strange that it has started doing this to me since 2 months now.

Patrick,

I hadn't heard of or ever seen the " Black Frames" export issue. Are you using a PC or Mac?

I am using Windows. The guys over at the BMD forums also haven't experienced this kind of issue before either. *scratches head*

Patrick,

Do you have the latest version of Windows and the latest drivers for your graphics card installed. Whenever I have had problems with Resolve it has been from a few things:

1) Not having the latest version of Windows and all security and cumulative updates.

2) Not having the latest graphics card driver, and if you have the Nvidia 1070/1080 and above graphic cards, install the Studio Version not the Gaming Version.

3) installing a New Version of Resolve over an old version of Resolve with the " Update" process. I just find it best, in my experience, to:

1) Uninstall
2) Restart
3) Install
4) Restart

I will give this a go, thanks, Rand!

It is so strange, this. It started doing this by itself ~ as I had no issue exporting still frames in the past. So, it must be that I might have to give DR a good old rekick.

Cheers for your guidance.

Anything new to post here? I have a variation of Anamorphics which I will test soon on my Scarlett. It seems with the newer cameras coming out these cameras are getting cheaper, however, the sensor, I feel, still looks more cinematic than the newer digital looking ones. If that makes sense.

Agreed with the cinematic look.
But for me, it was the education part.
Without it, I would not have had the time to learn film production with my lifestyle/workflow.
There was no way I could learn that on set since I would have to start at a lower level.
With the ability to shoot at anytime, learning as you go was the best part.

As long as you can control the light the red Scarlet is capable of beautiful picture. I still use it on lot of project

Great work, Vincent!
The MX sensor is simply beautiful. The scarlet suffers nothing when presented with good knowhow of picture acquisition. I just recently sold my Scarlet to another younger filmmaker, who I hope continues using it well.

I agree with Eric in the fact that the using of the Scarlet has bridged the gap, with me as well, from other consumer tool and for playing around with a tool capable of capturing amazing pictures in a small package. The lack of frame rates never bothered me a such with most narrative work or smaller jobs. The Scarlet really helped me learn some important fundamentals of high-end cinema/TV tools. I broke into the RED ecosystem with the Scarlet-X from the Blackmagic / Canon cinema cameras and I am glad I did.

If one can pick up a Scarlet (or even a Red One if they have a good set of sticks) to play around with, I cannot recommend it enough! You could even pick up a decent ARRI Classic for a couple of thousand bux these days! Also worth learning with... but a lot more cumbersome, that is for sure!

My only recommendation would be for the Scarlet is to get a decent ND (IRND) filter for it and then happy days!

what are you rocking these days as far as filters?

At the moment I am using Nisi filters. I have a Polariser 4x4 and then a 4 x 5,65 IRND 1.2 for outdoors and then a Clear Glass for indoor/lowlight work depending on the situation, just to protect my front elements.

Think about selling my Scarlet, shes only done 62.5 hours, would anyone be interested? or no someone that would? She's in mint condition and comes with all the standard accessories plus V-mount plate.

While, not primarily a Scarlet MX project (easily could have been my b-cam), but mainly an Epic MX project - it really does show what's the MX sensor is capable of in 2022:

Shot on Epic MX paired with Arri Ultra Primes. Shortly will show a new project shot on Epic and Scarlet as B-Cam paired with RPZ 18-85 T2.9 and a Laowa 12mm T2.9

Again, WOW!

Alex I sure hope you are ok over there.....

Thanks a lot guys, I’m fine and my family is safe. On 24.02.2022 we woke up in our apartment in Kyiv at 5AM from loud sounds of explosions. Car alarms went viral, immediately I’ve opened the news and they stated - RUSSIA started a war against Ukraine. I’ve managed to rescue my family from Kyiv, but a lot of my friends are hiding in shelters in Kyiv. Russians are firing ballistic missles that are able to carry nuclear weapons on our cities. The building that had a direct hit - is the building in which one of my friends lived. Luckily they were in shelter. The city of Kharkiv is being shelled with missle strikes that are not controlled ones, like Grad, Katyusha, Smerch and artillery strikes. Please, help us to close our skies - we have given out our nuclear arsenal in exchange to the guarantees of our sovereignty, and right now one of those guarantees is shelling us with missles that are able to carry nukes. Help us to protect our skies, and we will do the rest. We are not afraid of russians and we are kicking their asses like in the hell on the ground, but we can’t do anything in the sky.

you can help us by donating to our military, going on peace marches and by limiting russian activities on your local places. Russians are clearly an aggressor here and it’s a war of Putin’s choice. Most of russians clearly support those cruel actions and are clearly accomplices and are partners in crime.

please support us, we are alone against one of the biggest armies in the world, any help is vastly appreciated and can save a life here
