  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Offhollywood signs new lease in SOHO!

Congrats Mark - that's a great bit of town. I was there in June, and NY just gets harder and harder to leave!

If I catch myself over that way in the near future, I'll give you a bell and see if you're around for a beer or two - the place I usually stay at is a mates pad in TriBeCa, just down the road from you...

And Paul, congrats to you too mate - sounds great, and when you're up and running I'd love to come up and get a demo of your Scratch rig, and again, maybe (just maybe) imbibe the odd beer or two!...

Have a great christmas all, good to hear there are plenty of good things happening for the folk here in 2008...

Anakin's on the move again. Looks great!

here's a snap of Hayden being captured in RECODE with Doug Liman operating ELVIS (#0006) -

JUMPER opens WIDE in Feb - so I actually think it is the first shots from RED in a major motion picture up on the big screen -

"Jumper" looks like an awesome movie!

It will be the first movie I've been to in the theater in about a year.

Not only does it have some shots from RED, but Rachel Bilson is HOT! (reminds me of an ex-girlfriend). Oh yeah, and the story looks interesting too.

Congratulations Mark. These are the stories I love to hear. Hard work making dreams come true. :)

Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you.

Best,

J.

wow...congrats man. Hard work does pay off afterall!

I'll be looking forward to seeing the Red footage when I see "Jumper". This reminds me of when Jarred's HVX was used for some last minute footage for Munich (if I'm not mistaken).

Oh yeah, and pics of the new place or it doesn't exist.

It is a Landmark building. Which means building permits, even with an "inside man" take about 6 weeks.

We are are are with mechanical engineer & architect again today and will file early next week. I will post pics of the demo when that begins - maybe bang off some 4K timelapse - but if we start before permits are in place the fines here in NYC are horrific - beside there is TONS of planning and coordinating to do -

We are hoping to open the new facility in April - with some VIP events during Tribeca Film Festival - but it is still too really to have a totally accurate timeline.

Can you answer the question of the thread 'check my math' ? How much storage are you averaging on a feature?

The two we shot were LOW shooting ratios - just under 4T each. Data rate is a bit higher now, and I would expect the average indie to be closer to 5T- and a $5M + film to be as much as 8T - it's all about shooting ratio - and that varies widely. Most NY low budget indie shoots hover around 10-12 to 1. Hope that helps.

Mark,
I'm sure that you will be a great resource for guys like me who need to send clients somewhere for post.
I rarely have the time after the job to handhold clients, some of whom show an amazing and frustrating lack of post knowledge.
Hopefully I can help keep you guys busy!
Cheers,
Harry

there will be plants ... in addition to a nice sized salt water tank built into the wall between the office Aldey & I will share and the lounge area. I have always wanted a salt water tank.

Nice. If it's not too late I would definitely recommend getting clownfish (little Nemo's). Those little suckers will bring a great mood in the room. Most fish are just pretty and move slowly around the tank, but these guys actually look alive. Not only they have bright warm colurs and stand out from the bluish surrounding, they look like they are playing all the time.

A friend got a coral reef tank made to separate his living room from his working room and it looks awesome. They really make a difference compared to usual boring tanks. If this wouldn't be too distracting for work and you need energy feel combined with underwater calmness, I suggest combining beautiful boring fish with those little doped up guys.

Also, make sure you take care of the air pump buzz. They can get really loud.

If you do go with some of those little nemos, make sure to pair it with some anemones for them to play. I had a micro salt water set up and it was by far the coolest pets I ever owned. Tiny little cleaner shrimps that will actually clean everything! I had a nice reef working until I left it in charge with a friend and when I returned lets just say it was not a happy site, end of salt water career. The most expensive hobby I ever had (I dont consider RED a hobby) and just know you will need a full time maintenance guy for your wall rig...but the bigger the tank the easier they are to maintain so I hear.

Great!

I was living one month in 132 Crosby St., N.Y. 10012.

Another address was crossing Spring St. and Mercer St.

just opposite to Donald Judd's 101 Spring Street Gallery Installation.

Love SoHo very much.

Good luck Offhollywood!

Today I am 10 years younger.

The construction team started framing walls today.

I am truly excited.

I am getting the greatest "second wind" of my life ...

and yes, we are shooting some 4K time lapse.
