So while I was attending our East Tennessee Film Commission christmas party tonight, the film commissioner told me that a production company out of Ohio (rented from from Los Angeles) brought a RED to shoot a period piece here in East TN. I was wondering if it was someone on here who might have been from LA...?

No weird issues in 0 degree weather.

That's reassuring. Were you in-and-out of a truck or take any heroic measures to keep the camera warm? How long of a stretch did you have it out?

Nothing special. The most warmth it received was being brought into a tent every now and again, which wasn't much warmer than outside. At one point I had to heat the portable FW800 drives next to a propane heater because they froze. Literally.

But the camera operated fine. No hiccups. Just the battery coming loose every so often. I kept expecting something hideous to go wrong, but it never happened. I was pleasantly surprised.

We were using Build 10.

One other thing to note, is that the charger died. I had plugged it in at the hotel, went to dinner, came back and it was dead.

I called Red and spoke to Kevin C. He was kind enough to send me a replacement for the next day. Absolutely great customer service. While we were without batteries and filming in some caves at one of Ohio's parks, we used the AC adapter connected to an inverter that was hooked to a car battery. Worked like a charm.

TJ Cooley, the AC, is kind of a MacGyver of sorts and seem to have a solution for every obstacle the production faced. Great guy to have around.

Hey CJ, great to hear about the shoot. I wish I had known that you all were shooting here, I would have come over and hung out. The 0 degree weather must have been in Ohio because it hasn't been below 20 here this fall.

What lenses were you all using? The film commissioner was excited about having cine lenses and the whole workflow. I don't know what you and the DP told him, but he said, bye bye panasonic, bye bye sony!

Hey Matthew-

You're right, the 0 degrees weather was in Ohio at the Hocking Hills park. I think the crew may have preferred to stay in TN for the weather... and the hospitality we received at the locations.

We used my set of Zeiss Standard speeds throughout, no zooms. The locals seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about the camera, as it got a lot of "oohs" and "ahhhs". Everybody seemed to be pretty fascinated with it.
