  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Seriously, come on. What are you trying to do to me?

Good God. How many shelves are we not seeing? :)

I'm with Steve...that brings a certain sense of calm.

i kinda though it would do that for you Steve, which is why I posted it. Its kinda like the ultrasound before birth for you guys.. your actual camera is on that rack.

Well, it's been a long year waiting, but quite honestly if the camera is way better for it, then I will just wait here patiently and enjoy the moment when it shows up. Great work guys!

It just seemed like yesterday that we were a scam...

can you elaborate on what was done to improve the board (without the need of a daughter board) ?

I haven't noticed Jim ever specifying much detail about camera internals. But, since I'm sure you'd just as soon have my uninformed speculation... :-)

Suppose you are making a camera and one day hear of a bright shiny new circuit component(s) with improved specs that would improve your camera, but the pinout is different than the part you use now. Then it is not a "drop in replacement" because the pins can't be soldered to the existing circuit board. But if you really want the new part anyway, one option is to make a so-called daughterboard to hold the new part(s) and that is in turn soldered in place of the old part(s) on the original mainboard (or via connectors etc.) But then late some evening, the guys in back have a moment of extreme cleverness and see where if you rotate it slightly you actually can solder down the part, just a few pins are swapped and you can do a quick cut & jumper, or maybe you are real lucky and it's digital logic so you can actually flip a register in the FPGA and make it right without the roach wires... well you get the idea.

Sorry for the above longwinded speculation/fantasy. It's just a "for-example" idea; one way this type of thing could have played out.

Jim, it's hard to be a scam when you have two very important things
1. financial backing
2. passion and determination

That's why I bought into this. Your track record made it a lot easier to take the plunge. But I'm sure the challenge has been immense and it's easy to see why people would question what you were attempting to do. Others have failed trying to do the same thing.

That's just INSANE.

I am laughing to myself as a series of NAB and IBC memories flash through my mind -

I feel a little less "special" - but ....

I am so DAMN PROUD of ELVIS (#006) and BOND (#007) and I am sincerely excited for all the eager reservation holders - they are gonna just flip out when they get their new babies -

RIGHT NOW EVERYBODY IS TALKING ABOUT RED - SOON - EVERYBODY IS GONNA BE SHOOTING RED

ps - why the hell am I still at work!!

Mark, you'll always be special man. You were one of the first to hit the ground running with these things. And in the process have contributed a lot to the rest of us by sharing your experience.

Cool times!

Steve

That is the best pic ever posted ...congrats Red people !
