I’m sure this sound naïve but what does a posting in a thread mean when there is just one work “Bump” on a posted reply?

Bump is just something a seller says to quite literally bump the thread up to the top of the sub-forum, so more people get a chance to look at it.

Threads are sorted by the time of post so anytime something new is posted, the thread gets pushed to the top. Doesn't have to be "bump"... could be anything.

Ah yes, the one thing I like to see around Halloween, threads that go bump in the night.

In Pig Latin: umpbay (Spoken like the camel in the GEICO commercial.)

"bump" is code for bring us more pixels, which in turn is code for Release the Dragons!

"Bump" = a piece of wordstuff fated eternally to be otherwise useless except as a data block intended to kick the thread back upstairs where the poster wants it to be.

I always thought BUMP was short for Bringing Up My Post!

BTW (By The Way), it's usually considered bad netiquette (Internet Etiquette) to BUMP your thread more often than every 24hrs, and even that can get you banned in some forums!

+1 dumb bump :D

I am error bump

The sound of a thread kicked upwards in the absence of additional information.
