3990 at B&H. I'm in. This is my first post. Spend your money wisely, but you can't go wrong investing in great glass.

Very true, Doug. This lens is really for the pro DSLR shooter.
So these guys who never get to use cine lenses and don't usually spend tens of thousands on camera and lenses anyway.
For motion guys this lens has still the fault of the missing gears which makes it too uninteresting for most.

But the way this is designed, I would suggest it would be very easy to make a cine version from it, because it's almost there already.
We will see where they will take it. The Zeiss people I talked to were hinting that this is an idea that is being talked about. All very, very vague though - as in not dismissing / not admitting it.

This is the most expensive prime in EF/F mount history. Coming from a Canon AL mount user, I'd rather invest in a motion mount for that kind of dough.

Great performance, no doubt, but for most folks not investing in PL glass, this is priced about 2-3x too high to even consider.

Who cares about the damn mount? It's still cheaper than a thirty year old Superspeed, and optically… phew! Not on the same planet.

Once there's more of a set, I'm very likely in.

Mike
