  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sweet...

Let me make a phone call ... stay posted, dude ... we need to have you on latest beta with DRAGON footage .... RCX-P is good but Resolve and 6K .r3ds is friggin sweet!

Now. There has been a few questions if "2000 is the new 800".

I do not really think that way, but my friend Detlev Eller was messing around a bit and took this beautiful shot, which I think illustrates that point quite well.

Poor chap was not even allowed to take his shots home.

So this an homage to him, showing it off here:

(I will ask if he objects to show this off in motion...)

How's the noise in the shot? The facebook compression makes it hard to tell. I can only maybe see a bit in the leaf on the top left. Looks pretty clean though for 2000ISO.

OK

Here it is.

Ungraded
Just "off the cam"

ISO 2000 and compression 15:1 (!!!)

(have in mind the standard crap vimeo does...)

Ouch.

Hate Vimeo at times!

Anyhow.

Last three for today

Would have liked to post them as 6k TIFFs alongside the cityscape, but need to wash that desire with someone responsible.

In many ways, the jpgs give more credits to the images than vimeo...

Congratulations on becoming a MOD Phil, well deserved! You add a ton to this community and it's much appreciated. Now you can keep the riff raff like me in line better! :)

If I'm awake you're gonna have to stay awake :)

Downloaded original .mov, woah. Smooth as butter and pleasing fine grain texture reminds me of film, whatever they say.

Glad to see Phil as a mod!

And I have no problem seeing your questions Will! ;)

And the original mov still suffers from h264 crap.

Much better than the double vimeo treatment...

Now, unless there are questions based on "Sweet...", and before I have been able to do a RAW grade on it, AND it is totally cool to post 6k TIFFs (which I guess will happen when the Dragon Colorscience is out). here is a last batch of pics.

First, back to the night exts and highlight colors.

Cranked sat to 11, just to check:

Watch out for low-exposure jpg compression crap..... THAT is not part of the Dragon.

But as far as I can see, there is Chroma info in the highlights....

TIFFS would have been better for the "wider" picture of images like these...

Next is an untreated da-capo.

Sun is in the upper right corner.

No polkadots. No magenta.

Actually I see that since the Epic, Magenta is often forced out in the highlights by QT-transcodes when you have graded "out of range", not from the cameras overexposure...

On the Dragon, I do not get a hint of magenta even at linear.

No DRX involved in these shots.

It is hard to show this off on a jpeg...

But if you look away from the jpg blockyness at 8 bit and compression...

These still give an idea of the smoothness in the darks...

(TIFFS would again have been a better option...)

More DR/SKIN

But also a comparison between the same setup with "old glass" (ZEISS Jena) And "Modern" (65mm Masterprime)
I landed on the Jena, but that is a matter of taste.

RG3/RLF/Linear at 800... You know the drill...
