Thats going to be tough for the first round of release since there might only be 60 sets for North America. With the high demand, they may not be interested in a group buy at the moment.

David Kellermann posted on this some weeks ago and he is meeting with Schneider, on just this issue, at IBC. He expressed encouragment, regarding a GB, for the Xenons...not so much for the Xenars.

We prolly don't need two Group Buys.

Thank you very much

Holy smokes, only 60 might be released initially? What's the reasoning behind that?

Production issues as they ramp up a new workshop / factory to build them. You have to remember that in the world of Cinema Glass (talking pro cinema glass here) some manufacturers maybe only make 100's of sets of a particular lens type - rather than the 100,000's of consumer lenses that are released.

Schneider knows that they are onto something, but they'll probably never whack them out like Nikon / Canon / enter consumer lens manufacturer name here. Of those 60 sets that Bob talks of, it sounded like the majority were already spoken for… so probably less than 15 sets will make it to a retail setting.

What Glen said.

I've been close to the ear of the people making these Schneider Xenon-FF Primes. They are indeed doing their best to meet expectations in both delivery and price. Luckily they are getting both of these things very right.

I'll say this though. Between what I witnessed first hand at NAB and have seen since, these lenses are going to be in high demand. The good news is the way they are ramping up, they will be able to manufacture them a bit quicker.

I wonder how long after their release they will be able to round out the set with a 20 or 25mm on the wide end and possibly a 100mm a=on the far end.

The 25mm is definitely the next one we'll see in the set. Likely followed by the 100mm, which may be a macro lens as well. There were talks of an 18mm, but I have no idea where that one is in the production process. That's a tricky length to make though and maintain the same size of the housing. It might need a larger front element perhaps.

I'm meeting with both departments from Schneider, responsible for the Xenon and Xenar line, at IBC, to discuss a possible group buy. It's highly unlikely that there will be one for the Xenars, but chances are good for a Xenon group buy.

Put me on the "i'm curious" list. :)

Tentatively interested.
