Phillip Bloom has tweeted the following about the BMPCC:

@PhilipBloom: In my review right at end we see the black hole BMPCC highlight issue…look at the circular highlights here though?!

@PhilipBloom: another example of the weird “THAT’S NOT BOKEH CIRCLE” highlights in the pocket camera. I talk about this in part 3.

Hummm'

There's apparently a "black hole" problem too...

Well, you can think of it this way, it looks pretty good for a $900 camera the size of a Sony NEX camera...

I agree. If this camera came out 10 years ago we would all be blown away.

Apart from the knowned default I like the look & feel of the picture. It's good to have this in your poket. Eager to test one.

I'm really looking forward to receiving my BM PCC. I'm thinking of it as a sketchbook tool. I want to preshoot motion storyboards of our next short with it and take that down to a full edit before we ever begin production... With Epics

How are people not blown away anyway? 13 Stops of dynamic range, 1080p resolution and a 10-bit 220Mb/s 4:2:2 codec all for $1000(!). It's remarkable. This level of image quality has never been available at a pricepoint anywhere near the pocket camera.

Agreed-- amazing new tool for the tool box

180 degree shutter appears to have too much motion blur. 172.8 degree may prove better. We'll have to see what future footage may reveal or if a future firmware update may adjust this, if at all possible.

Specs aside, I'm more impressed by the GH3 (and 5D Mark III raw, for that matter). The sample footage looks bad.

I guess I have gotten to the point where I see that Man made it to the Moon in the 1960's,
so high-tech is old-tech, and I now expect in the coming years to see marvels like this BM PCC camera
come out often. If you expect to be blown away, then it's rather hard to be blown away.

BLack and white film also displayed this effect from time to time, depending on the emulsion and developer used. Ansel Adams induced it to great creative effect in his photo "Black Sun, Tungsten Hills, Owens Valley"
