  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about CANON GLASS

"The mount may not be an issue for much longer. Duclos Lenses is developing a clever mount conversion for PL cameras soon. The complete set of five lenses will run just over $20k for the Canon CN-E primes."

We do live in interesting times! The mount conversion route for PL is an exciting idea/option for me as it would certainly open up a whole new rental (test interchange) possibility (pre-ownership) as well for some shoots. Wondering how many Canon series lenses would actually work with it as I've really enjoyed some of what my (oldest) Nikon glass primes and zooms can do...

If there was a proper full set of CN-E primes in PL mount I would have purchased them the day they were released. I own their still lens counterparts and enjoy them. I'm mostly bothered that it's not a "true" full set of glass across the range, aperture range is all over the place. That would have been the killer set really.

I agree Phil, it's sad the the apertures are all over the place. And I doupt I'll ever use the 14mm... I wish I could swap it for a 35, T1.3

Is it warm and creamy almost like a cooke?
Or what kind of lenses does it remind you of?
Is the mount change more difficult than a CP.2?
Only authorized dealer/techs can do it, right?
I believe Canon don't sell the mount only...

The Canon is definitely not a warm and creamy look. It's sharp and contrasty, like I said, it's very similar to the Angeniuex.

The change in mount literally takes 2 seconds, but you have to send in your lens for us to modify in order to make such a change happen.

The change is quicker than the CP.2

The SLOWEST is ever took me to change it was 5 seconds!

Don't take my word, but isn't the DRAGON image circle rated at 33.906mm?

The Canon 30-105mm has a 31.4mm image circle. Might not cover at 6k....

Ok I was looking in dragon forum for these answers!
1) I thought all 35 FF lenses fully covered dragon at 6k
2) for the l series lenses (in general) what is the quality of image like on the dragon?
subjectively and technically - is it sharp enough? What shortcomings are there on image quality when compared with the top cinema lenses? I own l series and am shooting an Indie feature either on epic or later with dragon. Do you immediately spot l series footage? What is the weakest aspect of shooting red 5 and 6k with l series glass on red?
If I coughed up the rental $ for anginieux zoom or other 'vario-prime'' favorites - how much 'better' or is it just a favorite flavor? I have done some casual comparisons and it seemed color grading would hide the differences but please educate me ;)

Matthew Duclos recently modified my 30-105 PL with his Multi Mount. The build quality is amazing and the mount changes to EF in seconds. I was told the flange distance might need to be adjusted with each change over but so far the lens has taped out consistently between changes for me, although I would certainly not take that as a given. There is an adjustment ring built into the mount, but it's more of bench adjustment than a field adjustment. I'm sure it could be done in the field, it's just not something I would recommend in a pressured situation. It's similar to resetting back-focus on an ENG style lens, however it IS tooled. I love the mod overall. It allows me use my Leica Rs in EF with my 30-105 now on smaller projects, but I'm not boxed out of using the lens as part of larger PL lens package on a separate project. Simply awesome. For me at least, the 30-105 is the ultimate lens when I work with Steadi Ops. The focal length bump from 80-105 is huge, and not found in any other lightweight PL zoom. There is a small amount of barrel distortion at 30mm but overall it's warm and quite lovely in how it renders faces, faithful to the Canon lineage. I SO hope this covers 6K, but I suspect it will vignette slightly at its wide end. Hopefully I'm wrong!!!

Thread resurrection:

For those of you with the Canon CN-E 30-105, is there a preference between the IB/E Universal Mount System and the Duclos multi mount?
Ideally I would like to have PL and EF mounts.

Thank you,

It does not as I Remember. Rented it and thought it was strange that Canon that already got it done for vista stills don't apply the same for their modern cine zooms... Not so modern if you ask me. My FD´s do better lol.

Thank you,

Go with Duclos. I had both my 15.5-47 and 30-105 converted very early on, they are still rock solid. The lenses are parked at a rental house and have never had an issue with the mounts. Top quality work by Duclos.
