Hi. I've recently switched from OS X to Windows 7 (ugh) and since then have been seeing tons of silly problems. Like, I can't start Redcine X Pro 64-bit because I am missing "libmdd.dll".

I have a HP z820, 16-cores, Win7 64-bit version. Help, what am I doing wrong?

PS. The 32-bit version runs fine.

OK - just thought I'd try and install the 64bit version on the laptop I'm using.

It's an i7/8MB/Nvidia/W7/64bit - less than 6 months old (HP).

Software installed is only mocap software and Lightwave (for CGI) plus Chrome for the internet. That's it. This is a machine that is only used for a few tasks, so it's very clean (no bloatware).

RCX installed OK, but won't run - it gives the same missing DLL error, so, as far as I can see, it's not a Windows error - unless it's very machine specific... or is HP specific.

I have X2 Z1 workstations and a few more laptops, RCX will be going on them soon (hopefully 64bit!)... but I'm in the middle of a big CGI job so I don't want to start chasing install issues and problems.

But, I daresay there might be a HP link here as the OP is running a Z820.

OK - fixed it :)

Third post - feel like I'm talking to myself, but hey, this will be useful to everyone.

It's a permissions issue. RCX wants to run with Admin rights, but there isn't an option to 'run as admin' by default.

So, click on the RCX icon - open the properties tab - go to the Comparability tab and select 'Privilege level' and tick 'Run this program as Administrator'.

Then, next time you double click, all should be good.

All you should need to do is restart Windows after installing REDCINE-X and then you should be all good. The DLL in question is part of a compiler runtime package that gets installed along with REDCINE-X. Sometimes it takes a reboot in order for REDCINE-X to find it correctly.

Hi Grant

On my test install yesterday, a reboot didn't help. It still wouldn't run and gave the same dll error.

However, if the prefs are changed as I mentioned, it works fine. I've since installed on another clean system (a rendernode) that has nothing installed on it and encountered the same issue (dll error even after reboot).

I suspect you need to look at how it's installing as you do not get the option to 'run as administrator' at all - and it seems to require admin privileges to run correctly.

I have another Z1 workstation arriving next week, so I'll install again on that (as a clean system) and see what happens.

Pretty sure it's a 64bit and new/clean system issue, as once you have the DLL, any new install will quite happily work. The only way to test is to have an out of the box Win 64 machine without any RED software pre-installed.

Maybe it's related to Admin rights and/or the runtime package.

I'll update when the new Z1 arrives and I install RCX.

:)

What version of REDCINE-X are you running? You shouldn't need to run it as an administrator, so there definitely is an issue somewhere.

Hi Grant

The latest build I grabbed yesterday (17.28605).

I only grabbed this (initially) to help out the OP, LOL - but I've done a lot of software and PC stuff over the years, so thought I could lend a hand :)

Basically, if you go into properties and turn off the option inside the properties tab (Comparability tab and select 'Privilege level' and tick 'Run this program as Administrator') RCX won't run.

So my suggestion is that, at the original install time there should be 'install with admin rights' or there should be 'run as admin' available when you click the icon as an option.

This is why I suspect there's something amiss somewhere in the Admin/Install/rights side :)

OK. I'll take a look into it. It looks like an issue with our installer. Like I said, RCX shouldn't need to run as an administrator, so it definitely is an error.

No worries Grant.

Like I said, you will have to find a clean system. I can report back on the Z1 install next week (that's W7 Pro and my node laptops are running W7 Home Premium 64Bit, but I can't see that being the issue).

It might be the installer - when I ran it I don't remember the option to run the installer with Admin rights (it's fairly common among all the CGI software I run to install as Admin - and then run as non-admin once installed... so maybe this is the issue).

Let me know if I can help.

Hrmm.. I'm having trouble recreating the issue. I have a Windows 7 Pro VM that I just installed and is all up to date with system updates. I installed REDCINE-X Pro 17.28605 downloaded freshly from red.com. It installed fine, and launched fine after a reboot.

If you could, could you check that this file exists at this path:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\redist\intel64\compiler\libmmd.dll

Additionally, could you open a command prompt and type the following:

@echo %PATH%

If "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\redist\intel64\compiler" is not in the path, that is the problem. That folder needs to be in the path as that's where the REDCINE-X installs Intel's compiler runtime DLLs.

To fix that go to the start menu and right click "Computer" and select Properties. In the column on the left, click Advanced System Settings. Click the "Environment Variables" button.

Under System environment variables there should be one named "INTEL_DEV_REDIST" set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\". Under the "Path" environment variable, there should be an entry "%INTEL_DEV_REDIST%redist\intel64\compiler". If not, then add it. Just make sure it's separated by a semicolon (;) from all other paths listed in there.

When I got the prompt I uninstalled the program and reinstalled and that fixed it.
