  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Hey Jeffrey,

That stuff was for Xcar, which is a CNET/CBS company. Apparently it's going to be going global via AOL/CNET/CBS on smart TVs and the like, which is nice. I've done a few car shoots for them and some for MSN cars too. For some weird reason I'm getting a fair bit of car work at the moment. If you wanted to chat about it drop me a PM. :)

Ben, love those car shots. I don' t seem to see much beauty or fashion shot with contax glass, so here's a little makeup video I shot with the contax 28mm f2.8 and the 100m f2, both MM versions. I have an Epic but shot this with a Scarlet.

Before I get pulverized for the lip colors being over saturated and not "organic" or something along those lines, please keep in mind this is for a cosmetics client and that was the idea.

Greg this looks AWESOME! You shouldn't get pulverized at all for that grade. I thought it looked terrific. I think the purpose of Contax is it CAN get organic looking if you want it, but we are shooting RAW so you can also make it look however you want.

This spot is fantastic.

I've done a bunch of Project Runway work that I can't post yet, but as soon as I get permission, I will...just so there is more FASHION work to share!

BEN - your car shots are awesome. Love that you're rocking the 28-85!!!

Greg that's a great spot. Great to see how versatile this glass can be.

I've posted it to death I know, but the promo I shot earlier in the year was a chance to get slightly more organic looking shots from the Contax glass too.

Guys I'm interested in the type of setups you use when shooting and whether you stay light or fully 'rig up' and what NDs etc you use.

I ask because recently I've been using a lightweight 4x4" mattebox and it adds so much time to every lens change and setup that more and more I find myself ditching it by the end of the day and just using a Lee filter adapter hold and Lee stills grads and the like, or just using Tiffen screw-in IRND filters.

EDIT: In fact I've just found and order some spacers for the Lee filter adapters to allow them to take 4mm cine filters too.

Top of the page Zeissyness :)

SHAMELESS PLUG: Selling my beautiful contax 25mm f2.8 AEG, lovely little piece of glass, honestly probably has the smoothest focus ring action of any of my contax lenses, gonna be bummed to see this one go, many will tell you stopped down this is absolutely one of the sharpest contax offerings out there. Feel free to PM me if interested

Ben we use THIS when we wanna go light-weight. For 77mm Screw-in filters. Slips over our CORDVISION 80OD fronts perfectly, and with an 82mm to 77mm step down ring (which we GLUE in) easily accepts our 77mm filters. Hope this helps.

Having a better look, this is the newer Ford GT, not an older GT40 I was thinking of. Still a very fun car. We have one that comes out to play at our Ferrari event, the Crescent Classic. Nice shots by the way.

Hi guys,
it's beeing more than a month I'm waiting for that specific moment.
Silk workers are entering in action.

Yea I know I'm boring with the 60 AE, it is sort of stuck on the Epic since a while now. :)
