Hi.
Has anyone used the Nikon 200mm F2 with an Epic or Dragon? Notably, is there electronic iris and focus control?
Thanks.

Hi.

If you get the older AIS version, it's completely manual. The most current version however IS autofocus, and has an electronic iris

Thanks Nick. Yes, current version. Basically, I'm finally about to jump in and buy a Red rather than renting and already have lots of Nikon glass and the 200 is an amazing lens and wanted to make certain it worked directly with the Brain — avoiding the PL investment this way. Thanks again.

Great lens. BTW, my 300 f/2.8 and 600 f/4 both work fine on my Epic-M.

AIS version is only f4.0.

Nope, I have the 200 f2 ais modded to PL/panavision and its a wonderful piece of glass.

Phil, I bought it that way ( for a really good price ) and it has century precision optics engraved on it. I was about to buy the nikon only version but this one came up (on reduser, I think) I've actually used in in panavision mount twice. Once on film and once with a panavised F55. I really wanted the 300/2 but those are very rare and expensive. It just occurred to me that I should test it with my speedbooster on my nex5n.- a 1.4 200mm, now that would be interesting.

Ah. I've seen the Century conversions. Those are nice. Matt Uhry's got one of the very few PV conversions and rehousings out there. It's a great lens.

I'm trying to mimic my EF set in PL mount and need to flesh out 200mm, 300mm (getting the Red Pro Prime soon-ish), 400mm, and 600mm.

200mm and 300mm are high on my list to "solve" with the other lengths being much more of a specialty need.

My goal is to have 14-600mm in primes.

I also have a nikon 300/2.8 ais and it's a great lens but rarely sees the light of day so you should ask yourself just how much you will really use the longer focal lengths. I was thinking of this when red released the 300 pro prime and people were buying it. I wonder just how much footage was shot on the red 300mm outside of tests.

We think alike Phil... But I must have an 800mm... ;)

Only difference is that I have always and still am a Canon user... But I guess could never too late to switch... If I was not to successfully complete my Lens project...

Only thing is that I must have the new Motion Mount and I don't see a NIkon one coming as of yet, so I might still have to wait a little to move to the dark side, unless I was to Cine Mod/PL all stander Nikon glass.

Heh Ketch. Same boat.

I have a full set of Canon L glass already as well as a few oddities like Leica R, Olympus OM, Sigma, Tokina, some Nikon, Voigtlander, and a couple of weirder things I made. Since picking up my Cine-Xenars I'm looking to flesh out the lengths wider and longer to match my full frame still glass set.

I'll likely end up getting the Motion Mount in PL and in EF. Gotta figure out how to do that when the time comes.

Lately though it would appear I'm shooting PL glass pretty much all the time. Had to swap mounts for a fisheye shot on a spot recently though. I like the coverage, value, and general image quality from most of my still glass. I think we'll see a lot of folks with full frame and S35 sets of glass in the future, that is if they haven't done that already.

I'm a fan of Canon FD for longer stuff; I have just about every 'grey' FD lens ever made :)

My favourite from the lot of them? The 300/2.8. Just lovely.

The one I'm missing? The rare 200/1.8. If you have one for sale, or know anyone who might, get in touch :-) - I'd love to see how that stacks up against the Nikon 200/2...

Mike
