  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve crashed / Lost all grading info

Nikhil.
Sorry to hear about your trouble.
First of all, you should always enable the auto save, when you start a new project. For some weird reason BM doesn't think, that this feature should be on by default, but that is another story altogether.
If you did a standard Resolve instal, then you're using the standard database driven Resolve. If your Resolve crashes and you didn't do any savings of your grades, while doing that job, it's all gone. However, you can change Resolve to disk based database operation at any time. In that case you can very easily get to your individual projects, unlike with the standard database. But, again, if you didn't do any saves before the crash, it's all gone...

Thanks Jake. Yes, learning things the hard way... ;(

Auto save enabled now. I have to figure out what you mean by database vs disk based operation once I'm done with this project. I fear databases and the resulting corruption possibilities. If there's a diff way to do things here, I'm gonna pursue it.

Hey Jake, you do yourself a dis-service. While the manual is excellent and everyone should read it, you also investigate the detail to use more of Resolve's features than many users. We don't always agree Jake but we do appreciate your ongoing support to the new Resolve users who have yet to dive into the manual.

Thanks Peter.
You're axaggerating. Yes, we disagree at times, but it seems, that bit by bit you're starting to see thing my way. Wasn't Resolve 10 was created strictly as a result of my criticism?:emote_happyhappy:
Just please map the Log grading controls to the three wheels and I'll be a happy user:001_tongue:

Switch to the disk database. It's all in the manual. For a single user it is much better.

Peter/Jake,

Is there a way to create a new Disk Database, and migrate into it the projects of the current SQL-based being used?

Please advise,

Peter/Jake,

Is there a way to create a new Disk Database, and migrate into it the projects of the current SQL-based being used?

Please advise,

I just know how to create one from scratch. I'm not aware of the way to migrate from one type to the other. The good news, you can have multiple databases (I have yearly databases, that I store on a separate disk as a back up) and types of databases can be mixed. I think for sharing databases they must be SQL-type. But I could be wrong.

It seems that what is needed is to go the SQL_database, open every project and export them. Then, switch to the Disk_database and import each project exported. I wish there would be a simpler way to do the projects migration.

Select your new database. Login as a user. On the Project Manager page, select the "Show/Hide Group Projects" icon in the lower left (Looks like a soccer ball). In the drop down list at the top of the left hand window area, select the database that has the projects you want to Import into the current database. Then select the User with the projects you want to Import into the new database. Now select a project, right click, and select Import. It will append (Copy) to the end of the name, but you can remove that if desired. The only painful part is that you must do this one project at a time.

Dwaine,

Thanks for the procedure...! Is there a similar way to migrate the Power Grades, too?

Regards,

Thank you Dwaine for the information. There is always new things that can be learned every day and it looks like today is no exception:-)
Personally, I prefer to back up the database to an external location and it can be imported back in as needed. I find disk based database much easier to manage, as every project appears simply as a folder, that can be just copied back when needed. I was very happy to see, that disc based database was first offered as an alternative. Incidentally, I just did a fresh Resolve install and it appears, that disc based database is the default installation. Good idea. Now, if only Resolve defaulted to "Auto save ON" it would be a true bliss:-)

I think you should be able to access those in the Gallery page. It shows all the databases.

Rohit,

Thanks for your reply! I will try it tonight; would they be part of the "default" project?

Thanks again to you and Dwaine!

create a new empty project. save it. go to project settings. go to auto save - turn on. go to presets, select user default config. hit save button below.
now all newly created projects will have auto save on by default. (you can also do the same thing in the admin user and set auto save to on in the system config)

Paul,

Sorry that since I have been out for a while, I have not say "THANKS"....

Regards,

The only issue found is that when your "right click" to assign is as the default, Resolve crashes, but I can live with it.

oh cool hope it worked for you. havent had the crash thing on my end. but you shouldn't have to right click. take your existing default config, do the steps I mentioned and then hit the "save" button at the bottom of the presets . NOT the "apply" button that is at the bottom of the page.
