Just happened to check this out...really nice stuff, Ron -- makes me remember how as a kid I'd daydream about diving for lobster - at night. And then I realized, that would be scary as $hit. Maybe one day when I stop being such a wuss, you could help me get my diving chops. Haha. You only live once, right?

Anyway, the Distagon is looking sharp. Ha. Thanks for sharing, sir.

I have a music video shoot next week which is shooting at 120 fps in a pool, I am going to light it from surface with a couple of 2K's plus underwater with a couple of Sola 4000's and a custom 10,000 lumen light. It will only be a couple of metres underwater do you reckon that will be enough lights for exposure @ 180 degrees shutter

Your shoot is probably over by now, but just curious to hear how it went since I've done a few shoots like this. I guess you had enough light? Did you have any issues with flickering? Even flicker-free ballasts will show some pulsing at speeds of 120fps, even if barely noticable underwater and usually not for the client. Any problems with that?

I'm liking the look of that lens Ron. Really nice and sharp. Looks like a must have to the UW kit. Love the Tarpons, just shot some yesterday at a dive site here called Shark reef, they were munching down on some silversides and hung around for a bit. Question for you, was your B&W shot with the Monochrome?. Looks great.

Frazier, no, sadly it was a conversion. Honestly, I'm not thrilled with it, or most any other B&W conversions I've done for that matter. We need better tools - ala Photoshop - to get really good conversions. I saw a demo of Resolve 10 the other day and I'm hoping that will give us some more features. BTW - The hammers did look fantastic with the mono but that was the only time I had it to try...

Hey Johnny, why did you remove your VW stuff, was writing at length to not only congratulate you on that amazing success, but also had lots of questions, DP related, on how the whole thing went down, why you chose the lenses you did, what frame rates you used and why, how you dealt with the random Tiger sharks on the shoot, who did post, what pressures the corporate folks applied to get the goods they wanted, so many questions.

Great stuff my friend, please re-post it. Us little folk, we are learning from the guys like you, rock on brother.

was told i could post and post photos as well, but then later told not to post any of the vw doing it's thing in mid water---so as not to be a commercial spoiler. Made sense to me and so i can post the same post in a few days after the commercial airs. At that time, i'll be pleased to share any info you and any others want to know about. Lens choices, corporate rodeo and all......If anything, there should be a manual on how to present one's self when interacting in any form: email, in person, on phone with corporate or those that hired you. I have quite a bit to say on that subject and the do's and don'ts and the "that will surely get you in hot water and never hired again". All really basic, but easy for a lot of folks to fall out of line and then never get hired again and lest we forget, one producer knows ten......

I shot this last week in Isla Mujeres, Mexico on the Epic in 5K.
Most is with the Canon 16-35 at 16mm, some clips with the Canon 8-15FE at 12.8mm.
It was my first time with Whale Sharks and I found it so impressive!

Seems Isla Mujeres is HOT this year. Breath-holding will put us all to the test. I have a shoot there end of August but with actors interacting with the sharks. I see you were with Howard and Michele there....saw some of his shots today....you guys had great water.....
