  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Edit r3d files in Davinci

I have all my r3d files and I'm looking to trim the clips to what i want and render them to 1080p as a final ready to edit file.
I'm trying to do the selects inside devinci is this possible, it keeps exporting the whole clip

Are you importing all clips and then rendering from the Master timeline, rather than an XML import? The Master Timeline holds all of your clips. All of each clip.

A possible workaround (and I only mention this because I'm not 100% clear on your intended full workflow) is to import an XML into Redcine-X, trim all R3Ds there (and export an XML), and then link to those R3D Trims using the XML from RedCine-X. Certainly doesn't work in all situations, but I'm just trying to give more food for thought.

Why? Do you like to do everything the hard way?:-)
You can accomplish exactly the same thing in Resolve (although i still have no idea why you'd want to do that) without jumping between different applications. Export the cut down R3D files from Resolve, import them into the new folder in Resolve and "Reconfirm from the Folder(s)", select the new folder with the cut down r3Ds. Done.

Save us RED Team.. Build the Redcine X application out to a full editing suite for your RED cameras files =)

My process - dirty local tv spots
Open r3d in redcine, review each clip/apply a look do the selects in/out & framing - render them out to 1080p
open fcp7 import clips, edit the video-export - upload to tv station.

However last week i started using davinci, and im loving it, lots of options however i can select in/out on individual clips. I don't want to render the whole clips, wastes time and space.

You have always been able to set in and out points in Redcine X. You could even do that in the original Redcine program.

Greg, yes, you can do this in DaVinci.

Create a new project and bring all of the clips into the media pool. Go to CONFORM. Your master timeline will have all your clips but cannot be edited. Create a new timeline by clicking the + in the Timeline box. In the bottom right you will see your clips in the timeline and you can drag the in/out points. Go to COLOR, check the I/O points and make your corrections. Go to DELIVER and make sure you select INDIVIDUAL CLIPS and USE SOURCE FILE NAME.

What you will get is the same as what you are doing in RCX. You might find it challenging to decide the best I/O point without proper feedback so you might have to go back and forth between CONFORM and COLOR to check.

Will take some messing about but this will do what you're asking.

Who cares about alexa files for redcine-X ? RED camera made by RED, RED support by RED, REDCINE-X made by red for their files. This is sweet and if they should choose to open REDCINE-X as a full editor for our red files this would be outstanding because who else can handle or understand the creators of 4K & 6K cameras??? No more headaches just create is what I need, Hell I would even buy it. I'm tell you man the possibilities of a one stop shop. No more editing crap software that needs a ton of updates and still don't work, the best thing we have is Resolve but we still need redcine -X right?? so why not.

The vast majority of projects almost always involve at least some footage that is either computer generated, shot with another camera (particularly 2nd unit material), or purchased as stock footage. Any sensible editing program must be able to read and use files of various types if it is to have any kind of traction. Not to mention that developing a credible editing program takes considerable resources, the level of which may or may not make sense for Red to do directly, particularly when essentially every major editing software vendor already supports the format.

WOW THANK YOU BIG TIME, now i can to this:)
