  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Resolve interpreting with Redgamma curve, but I'd prefer LOG. How?

I'm still a noob with resolve, but I'm making progress. This is my first time roundtripping with RED footage. I made prores proxies, did the edit in FCP and exported an XML, imported my R3d's into resolve, then the XML, and like magic, resolve connected properly to the R3D's. Great.

But, the R3D's seem to be interpreted with a redgamma curve in resolve, and I'd prefer to work with a log curve. Any quick way to change the way they're interpreted? Is this something I need to do in Redcine X rather than Resolve?

cheers!

Click the camera icon on the colour page in Resolve to access raw settings.

Excellent. Thank you. When I set the "decode using" to "clip", I can now change that clip to REDlog film, which is what I was trying to do. However, when I set he "decode using" dropbox to "project", the color space is grayed out on REDgamma 3.

How to I set the entire project to REDlog instead of clip by clip?

Appreciate the responses

I think it's in the setting tab you go to the camera raw tab and select the project options, make sure you switch the camera to red(kind of obvious as the arriraw options kind of give it away that it's not the right camera) I think that is where you set your project setting and then set each clip to project settings, don't have davinci near me so I can't verify sorry. or you could go all the way back to redcinex and change the clips to redlogfilm save the settings to rmd and then go back to davinci and reload all the clips, sucks and is backwards but you have to delete them from the media pool and reload them to have the new rmd settings take effect.

when you first open media page go to bottom left of page. click on little cog icon. here you will see master settings. you can set dual link sdi for true 10 bit here, single link 3G, etc. go to camera raw sub menu. here you can change project settings. Resolve defaults to ARRI so change camera to RED and set settings to project. Default ASA is 320 so set that to 800 and the rest is yours to do as you wish. There are also submenus for applying LUT's , setting up external decks etc.

Excellent... thanks for all the responses and the help in getting me setup properly. Good to Go!

Come on guys. No need to re-invent the wheel and send the OP in the wrong direction.
1. Select all clips in the timeline.
2. Change from project to clip. That will make all windows and tabs selectable.
3. Select RLF as the gamma setting.
4. Click "apply changes" by clicking the left check mark at the bottom of the window.
Now all shots in the timeline have RLF gamma.

Absolutely. IMHO per clip is much more useful than one global "project" setting. You only want to change the gamma curve, not use the same white balance, ISO etc for every clip.
