Which Cabrio, the 19-90, or 85-300? Needing adjustments probably could be said of any wireless FIZ controller. Did the RR seem more glitchy that others? Did the small adjustment get things working okay?
19-90.
Sorry, when I meant small adjustments, I meant short pulls on the focus.
There was a moment on the Alura where on my AC pulled from 30' to 25' on the hand control but the motor didn't even move until he got to about 25' and it was just a line or two under 30' on the scale.
Never had any problems with Preston or bartech but you are right they a lot more $$$$$$!
RR has been good about letting it known that the older/larger/stiffer cine lenses might be problematic. This isn't a what we want to hear of course, but the wireless controllers that can handle those lenses are also X 3 (or more) the money. Was it unusable for these lenses? Did it work, but just perform slowly?
For 19-90 because focus is a lot more loose it was better on the longer pulls but it's the short pulls where this motor shows its weakness.
On the Alura the longer pulls, the motor was always trying to catch up, my AC would pull, when reached his mark on the hand unit the motor was still turning.
Sounds like you had problems reaching the gears with both 19 and 15...big concern. Did thes issues pop up on a specific lens or on multiple lenses? Is your set-up non-standard? Did you run into any scenario where it worked as expected?
On the 19-90 I was using a 15mm light weight set up on a bridge and dovetail(I have the ET Micron setup)plate, because the lens is close the rails it was really hard to tighten the knob on the motor, so we used an offset.
On the Alura I was on a standard 19mm studio setup and the motor couldn't reach the lens at a good angle, again the offset was used.
Will be using primes on Monday, I'll report back.
It's still a big investment so I'm happy to answer any questions.
