Steve,

Thanks for posting you have me interested. I loved the idea of the Movi, but way out of my price range. I'll be following and watching! Got me excited that there is something a bit more on the affordable side out there on the market.

Hello,

we plan to offer a handheld brushless stabilizer soon for cameras up to 5 kg, like the Red Epic. There will also be a smaller version for cameras around 2 kg and a larger one for cameras up to 10 kg. The mid sized version is the most advanced in the moment. We have first prototypes to test and improve step by step and plan to add small joysticks to the handles for better control of pan and tilt in single operator mode. For more information, upgrades and new videos you might visit our website http://www.portahead.de from time to time.

There are lots of decent looking ones in the works. If some one can make decent versions of these that are priced at $1,500 (small version) $2,500 (medium) and $5,000 (big) they will sell like hot cakes!

Yeah I think $5000 for a gimbal that can hold a red Epic/Scarlet would be the right price. Have other features like the remote or stand/arm/vest to be additional upgrades but with a good base Price, that will keep the competition all striding to get your sales and your clientele.

This is the perfect time to become the Stead-cam of gimbals as long as you're not too greedy and if the product doesn't bite. Junk won't last long but fair pricing will be the difference between a Sony and a Samsung.

What would be interesting is if Freefly react and do a Red style Epic reduction on the Movi.

That would take out quite a few competitors. I suppose it depends on their bottom line and what volumes they need fro critical mass.

Yesterday I tuned the PID settings with 5 kg weight including camera and brass blocks on our Porta Head 5 prototype. I adjusted the settings due to the 10x magnifier of the Canon DSLR until all remaining jitter was removed. RC control of pan and tilts allow smooth starts and stops even in the magnified image. Small joysticks at the handles for better control of pan and tilt in single operator mode are also in development. A test with the Red Epic and real footage will follow soon.

BESTEADY looks promising and very fair price. I hope the BESTEADY FOUR do not pass the $5,000 mark!!

5KG will barely hold an epic. With red side handle, redvolt, media, lens motor and lens you are looking at over 5...

There might be room for more, we'll have to test it. We have the possibility to do some tests in the next time at a local production company and will probably try it with external power supply over a Red cable as well as the side handle with redvolt.
