  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm confused.

Shot at 29.97fps.

Redcine-X shows -

Frame Rate: 23.976

Record Frame Rate: 29.97

When I play clip in Redcine-X, it plays as 23.976fps.

When I transcode at 29.97, exported clip shows up as 23.976fps.

When I import R3D into PP6, clip shows up as 23.976fps.

Any help?

Sounds like the project's frame rate was 23.976, but you overcranked to 29.97? Is that correct?

RedCine X shows you the project's frame (that is the playback frame rate), not the speed at which you shot. Kind of annoying. I shoot a lot of overcranked footage, and would love RED Cine X to show the shot rate, so I can sort this separately.

When you were recording Chris was there the 4 audio bars on the bottom right corner or the word VARISPEED..? Might be project setting is 23.97 and you've set record speed to 29.97.. Was the footage playing back at the right speed at 23.97?

As others have noted, your project setting is 23.976 and recording settings is 29.97. If you wanted 29.97 playback, your project setting should be 29.97.

Yes, Varispeed for sure. I just verified this since the camera settings have not change since yesterday on the job.

Yes, I shot at 29.97fps, absolutely.

My big issue is in how to import true 29.97fps footage into PP6.

I'm not sure what that means. Are there 2 camera different settings for frame rate?

Project time base was set to 23.976fps, yes.

What I want is slow motion playback, yes. I definitely don't want 29.97fps to play back at 29.97fps.

As far as I can tell, with the project time base at 23.976fps and the record frame rate at 29.97fps should give me actual over cranked footage (for a 23.976fps timeline - what we're working with).

Stumped.

Thats what I expect. Slightly slow motion clip. Is that what you are getting?

Actually, yeah. We're getting fooled by the meta data (or confused, anyway). It actually is playing back at 20% slower. Thanks everyone for your help.

Think of "project frame rate" as playback frame rate. And "framerate" as record framerate...

You can however change your playback/project frameratefor a clip in RCXP... But I forgot how, but I bet somebody here can help.

If you meant to shoot 29.97 then you can use after effects to interpret the footage at 29.97.

Is there sync sound?

if you meant to shot 24 then you have to do a 3:2 pull down to remove the 6 extra frames, you can do that with Nattress tools in fcp.

either way, it does complicate things if you plan on going back to the r3d.

if you go the QuickTime route you can set up a compressor preset with (optical flow from shake built in) to get very good results.
