  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Action Products Raptor Offer: Only Good Until 3/22

I tough he refused to participate, Why change of heart? (lol).

Well PM sent

If you wait longer than 3 days from today (3/18) to purchase a Raptor, you will pay significantly more for your Raptor.

Doubt, it will be AP's lost not this community (sorry), They really have best chance to promote their smart gears by REDusers.

Would absolutely love to work with the Raptor, AP rocks hard. That said, unless you are committed to doing lots of Steady work (takes time and practice) or can rent it regularly its going to be hard to ROI.

As others have noted, the whole group buy approach is handicapped by diversity of intent.

In my case, I just want to be able to offer that "floaty" feel when it suits the content and have a lower angle alternative to off the shoulder hand held for walk 'n' talks. It will enhance my kit a bit but its not likely to bill as a line item very often - therefore - I'm looking for something under $2,000 that is well enough built to last a few years of light use.

FWIW if you are young and stoked to be a Steady op, and, are looking at stretching financially to buy your own rig via a group buy to get started, please think it through carefully. No offense to anyone, the next Charles Papert might be on RedUser today, just have your eyes open.

Cheers - #19

NEW ActionCam Raptor Info and Pics

Hello Everyone, below are some pictures with some information about our newest fully modular stabilizer, the ActionCam Raptor .

Brian Goff (engineer) demoing the ActionCam Raptor...

Two wide shots of the Brian with the Raptor...

You can see in both these pictures that the ActionCam is supported by the Back Mounted Vest. This will distribute the weight throughout your hips instead of your chest / shoulder areas. ActionProducts adopted this approach from the very beginning nearly 20 years ago. Our bodies are meant to carry weight throughout our hips, not our shoulders / chest areas. Using the ActionCam, you will notice that you will be more comfortable, in control, and be able to work longer hours without being as tired.

All ActionCam Back Mounted Vest are universal and can be adjusted to fit any operator. This includes being able to mount the arm on the left or right side at anytime.

19mm studio (104mm spacing) configurations are commonly used for heavier camera setups. Both ActionCam Rebel and Raptor series are fully modular stabilizing systems and can be seen when you use our "Build your own" approach at innocinema.com. This means the Raptor can be upgraded later to a bigger setup by parts alone, instead of buying a completely new rig. The ActionCam Rebel series is meant for heavier cameras and accessories that go with them. So you will see 19mm rods with 104 mm spacing used throughout the post to accommodate the heavier accessories.

This same principle is seen with the new ActionCam Raptor, except since it is designed for a lighter weight set up, you have the option to use 15mm lightweight (60mm spacing - seen on pics and video) or 15mm Studio (100mm spacing) set up on the post.

One monitor mount (ActionCam Rebel Red, Rebel Pro, Raptor) or two (ActionCam Elite) it is completely user preference. You are able to achieve dynamic balancing regardless of having one or two monitor mounts. The primary reason for two is a lot of operators like having the flexibility of having more space through the post for mounting accessories and using them for dynamic balancing in different ways. All rod standards are mounted to the post using 360 degree swivel mounts for added flexibility for dynamic balancing and accessory placement.

Here you can see the rods can swivel and there is a one sided battery module with Gold-Mount plates (V-Mount also available) plus a monitor. Notice there is also another random battery module mounted upside down directly under the post, thats only there to show that you really can mount these accessories anywhere and however you want.

Other cool side note about this one sided Battery Module, is it is the same Battery module used on our
EPIC/SCARLET Modular Power system that is actually shown on the EPIC in this same picture at the top where the Battery Module is attached with quick release into the Electra. This means if you are using our system for the EPIC or SCARLET, the Battery Module is able to be used as part of the Raptor without having to buy the same power source twice if you don't need it....

arm_close_500.jpg

Here you can see closer how the arm is made with swiss precision out of Air Craft Aluminum. Like the rest of the rig, it is based on the same spring package technology ActionProducts uses in the ActionCam Rebel series. This is why you can operate with a large weight variance with just one rig without adding weight. ActionCam Raptor is currently estimated at 8-28 lbs, and the ActionCam Rebel can carry a load of 11-77lbs. It is very easy to swap out springs on the fly to keep the arm soft between larger weight variances.

post_500.jpg

Here you can see closer how the expandable post is made out of carbon fiber. This is a complete open system from the stage down to the bottom of the post. This lets the operator run any custom cable throughout the system. Doing this allows the operator to choice at anytime what kind of set up to use the ActionCam for without having to worry about custom making cables every time you need to change your set up.

Also notice that the gimbal is based on the 19mm standard and is made out of Air Craft Aluminum just like the rest of the system. This means the Raptor Sled can be used with virtually any industry stand Arm on market.

Wow, one minute (ok 9 hours) ago, Daryl from AP wrote me that it wasn't their intention to disrupt the ProLine group buy, and that they'll will start their offer in the end of next week. I guess that end of next week came really quick.

I even recommended people who contacted me to take the AP rig, if they could spend the extra money and not have to fly a RED one. Probably I'm the weirdo here, since I try not to live only for my benefit and give my best to stay true to my word.

Anyway, as I stated several times before, I believe that this rig is amazing, since all the AP products I worked with where great. Even though AP first refused to make an offer for the group buy, than had a change of mind just a week ago and are now running a counter offer, I wish you good luck with your sales. I just hope that through your offer the ProLine deal is not endangered, since many people depend on it.

I don't think the PROLine will be affected at all. This is in a different price bracket for those who have the budget for it.

Right, adding on the expense of customs duty which is a factor, it puts it at potentially twice the expense of the Proline.

Regarding the price, keep in mind, this rig is two years in the making; a tremendous amount of R & D went into creating and perfecting it.

If you're in this market, this is the best deal you'll ever get on this particular rig.

Shipping info will be available tomorrow.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

don't get me wrong, I think the price is exceptional either way. And I'd hang it on my wall with beauty lighting when I wasn't using it.

If you have the capital to invest it's a wise investment because this item isn't going to depreciate quickly and the name is solid, and this is a new entry into a new category for AP. I can only imagine there is a wider market represented by this category, therefore more impressions, therefore more demand. By the looks of it this is a real contender and might give larger brands a run for their money if all goes well. It's our job to get the word out on forums like this.

Okay, I wasn't going to post but I just can't hep it... ;)

So with all do respect to every one here... This is wrong in so many ways I don't even know were to begin!!

Having pulled off extremely successful Group Buys in the past 6 years, I know how much work goes in to it, and by posting an other Group buy of the same product, no matter the quality and or price difference IT's the same product, it's utterly WRONG etiquette!!

I know the guys at AP personally since the very beginning of this community with the very first LA Salt test were the Red edition Action Cam was tested, and can attest for the craftsmanship of their products, but this is wrong for AP to even approve of this Group buy for the very same reason written above, sorry this is how it is!!

Then Carey there is the attitude, in some posts you are nice to David, and you should be as He did an insane Job on that Group buy, and then here you sound a bit too much arrogant, no good, this is a community and we should all be respectful one an other, especially when David is 100% right, and you are in the wrong.

Lastly 3 Days Group Buy? Take it or Leave it? What kind of Joke is this? A group buy could not be done in a more WRONG way then this.

Either way, good luck with your Group Buy.

.
Exactly (lol)
But at-least I felt extremely lucky to have two option and I certainly picked the right one "leave it" (lol)

Ketch, could it be this narrow window exists to not affect David´s group buy? As you started a lot of group buys yourself you will know how many people jump in it and how many finally could not afford it in the last moment (with such pricey group buy´s). A narrow time window will give the ones who really wanted to buy the Raptor a possibility to buy with a discount, and this without affecting the other group buy, because the ones who really wanted the Raptor at the offered price would never buy something else. Let´s not forget AP developed this since 2 years and their intention was always to offer a introduction price. All in the beginning there was a big mixup in David´s thread, because a lot of us thought we are all heading for two or tree group buy´s in a different quality/ price range, and everybody would be happy in the end. I´m very sorry about all the misunderstanding in the past weeks, that´s why even I always thought in a free market AP would have the same right to jump in the group buy with their own voice and offers at any time (like Laing and Proline..), I would give up and not interfere anymore the original thread with my opinion.
Now, we can start another discussion here and bump with it this thread over the next days, or we just leave it like it is. Personally I guess the other group buy will work better, if we don´t start another discussion.
I have the biggest respect for you Ketch, I know you´re topnotch to deal with by own experience. Just wanted to add this to make sure I´m not misunderstood.
Best,
Marc

Either way, good luck with your Group Buy.

I've never been arrogant on here Ketch. I too have been responsible for successful group buys in the past. There will always be dissenting opinions. Please don't kill the messenger here. I am only sharing information, which is what these forums are for. This is not an official "group buy". This is a private offer made from AP. It does not affect what David has put together in the other thread.

Again, with all due respect, I've never been arrogant. That's a misinterpretation.

Indeed Marc.

And I thank you for your respect for me as I like wise respect you.

To add to the above, so I am not misunderstood either.... And this is how I read it and how I have taken it, and I say this with the out most respect to all named here...

I have the Community's best interest in mind here, while also we must think of our Manufacturers that do produce the goods for us, in this case I fill that the guys I know Brian in particular, is about to get the very SHORT end of the stick here, just because of how this was handle, I can see why He did not wanted in on the group buy, yet I can't possibly understand how a Manufacturer could possibly give up the opportunity to showcase their gear to 60+ users at once, even at COST would still be ideal for them as the product would be showcased and used and talked about opening the doors for all others to then buy it at full price, IT'S called advertisement, and not matter how good a product is, if no one knows about it it will not sale!

I wanted to see the Raptor in the group buy, but it is never cool top try and disrupt some one else's work, and this to me looks exactly that, especially when there was already a talk with David, and Carey has been present in David's threads about the group buy, so this does not look cool in my book.

Despite this, my honest observation, is that first a 3 days group buy is just simply put nonsense, trying to force some one to make an immediate decision, and second it is simply way too short of a time frame for any one to really take notice, third the attitude here is wrong, as you don't say take it or leave it to a potential customer, as if your S*&^$ don't stink, it is just wrong and not in the basis of a good relationship to come with any one that otherwise might have wanted in the group buy and purchased a Raptor system like myself, which in turn would have given an immense exposure to the Rig to the only benefit of the Manufacturer in this case AP.

Okay Carey good to know,

but I must tell you that saying "Take it or leave it" sounds pretty arrogant to me, and if this is what the guys at AP have told you, you should have said strait out ot them, thanks and good buy, I guess I'll "Leave it" as it will be pretty obvious they would need some serious etiquette and public relation teachings.

Indeed Marc.

Yes, Reduser is a main hub of the online filmmaking community. Best thing you can do is release a flock of Raptors into it to run amok!
