Hey everyone. I'm a little new in the RED world. I've had a scarlet for about a year and I noticed something on my recent trip to Africa. I am getting a crazy amount of noise in some images. Like almost unusable. I never go above 250 iso unless I have to because I found that this gives me less noise (i've done black level tests). here are 2 shots of weaver birds. look at the mids and lows and you will see it just looks bad. The image looks like crap too this was just a simple contrast in davinci resolve. I flattened to red log film. Any ideas why I would be having problems like this? I've seen other shorts shot on the scarlet and I don't see too much to any noise in the darks or mids at all. thanks!

This is absolutly ugly noise.

It is possible to have a TIFF or a R3D for that ?

digitalstillandmotion (at) gmail.com

Thanks.

Yes i'll upload the r3d in a second. stand by...

I black balanced in my house a week before the trip. but not all my footage looks bad it's just sometimes...

it could be the fact that your over exposing the image, since you are exposing for 250 iso, where the sensor is natively 320 iso. I would run a black shade given your shooting conditions as not every location is the same. Also if you could post a R3D.

Dont know how to upload r3d... I think it's too big about a gig and a half...

i'm sorry I don't mean to be annoying but where should I send the R3d to? you'r email addresses? If you want it up on here, how would I send it to this page?

awesome thanks will be uploaded in a sec...

I heard you say, you Black balanced in your house before your trip.

Is your house the same temprature and humidity as africa?

You have to do it in the climate you are shooting in. Also, Shoot at least 320.... 250ISO and you are throwing away dynamic range. Just out the window, its gone....

So should I black Balance every time I'm on a new set and black balance every time im on a new scene? This would be tough for wildlife... but if that's how it is then That's how it is.

Also, the native iso on the scarlet is 800 but I found less noise in 250 than 800 that's why I keep it there. So are you saying I should just keep it native? I just hate noise.

Here is the Link to the R3d. I noticed I don't get too much noise color grading in Cine X but the bad images are from Davinci...

no its 2k I used 2k to push in further than 300mm.

This is 2K 3:1 24 fps.

And, nothing is shocking about the NOISE when I play the footage on my computer. The footage looks WONDERFUL !

So the problem is your computer, not the scarlet my dear, you should change your screen or video card ?
