producing a indie feature and we are in need of a jail or prison location or set for mostly interior shots.

if anyone knows of one it would be greatly appreciated. we have a budget it might not be the biggest but its something

I have no idea about Los Angles, but the Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville, TN is not an active prison, and the state makes it available to film productions - for free I think.

This place:

421 N Ave. 19, west edge of Highland Park, just south of the 110. The most recent thing I've seen it in is the Lady Gaga "Telephone" video

I don't know what location company represents it though. I bet if you call the non-profit that's in the building, they can tell you. Anything like this in L.A. is not going to be cheap, but you may be surprised places like this can play ball.

If they won't work, the Linda Vista Hospital in Boyle Heights is similar vibe, but you'd have to build your jail cells. That location can be super reasonable in price.

Ibrahim we used an old police station in San Diego during last summer for an indie feature. It looked wicked cool, and yes, it's a police station, not a prison, but it had LOTS of wide open indoors spaces and the whole vibe of the place was very interesting.
Still, it's in San Diego, so I'm not sure if you guys wanna travel that far. If you're interested I can give you more info.

Sybil Brand is the most commonly used L.A. prison location for the film industry for a number of years now. You can get the contact information via a Google search.

Small cell row, owned by a good friend of mine. In the zone, just barely.

Ibrahim,

I am finishing a short film and we have ONE scene left to shoot that should take place in a prison or jail yard. (two lines of dialogue, two camera setups).

This prison looks great, but we certainly can't afford $850 for a full day. Maybe you and I could team up, and my crew and actors could shoot in this section for an a hour and a half or so? (set up/break down/lighting time).

Alternately, David, do you know if he's amenable to microshoots like that?

Thanks!

Phil

Hey Adrian, I'd be interested in knowing more-- I'm in SD and always on the look out for good shooting locations! :D
