When connecting Red Mags with the RED card reader via eSATA the MAC wants to format then and not mount them. If I connect via FireWire they mount fine.

Anyone else experience this?

Could be the brand of your eSATA card, I cant use the card reader with my SeriTek card, and last I read the readers were only working with Sonnet brand... but that was a few months ago. It really annoyed me at the time because I work in post a lot and at the time of purchasing a eSATA card in 2010, the Sonnet card would make you restart if you wanted to unmount/remount a drive and had other issues, but I've never had a single problem with my SeriTek and can unplug/unmount and remount as much as I want without a restart.

1. start up you computer with a card inserted.
2. use the red watchdog to unmount and remount cards. The remounting demands a bit of time, like 40 seconds or so.
3. keep a card mounted at all times as if you wait to long in between you might "loose your mount".

Yes, i ca;led Red and they say there are only 2 brands that work with the card readers,

From the "RED_Station_Install_Guide_v1_0"
"IMPORTANT: ONLY Silicon Image or Highpoint SATA cards will connect to RED STATION modules through eSATA at this time."

Yeah its a shame Mark, cause I have had 0 problems with my SeriTek except not working with Red Card Reader. Really annoys me sometimes, but I just did a week long Epic job, FW800 from the reader out to eSata external drives, and the download time was reasonable and faster then I expected, so for a one camera shoot I never got bottlenecked.
